There is more to it than just "not eating" typically you go into a fast with a 4 day period of only fruits and veggies. then you have an outtro of the same, then you slowly resume eating your normal stuff. It isnt just stop start. and your sister is wrong. If you just dont eat for 1-2 days, she is correct, but after day 3, the euphoria setting in and all is accompanied by keytones in your urine. Keytones are the byproduct of your body burning fat. you can get these strips from health stores and diabetic supplies that tell you when you are keytoning.

the point is that for the first few days, your body consumes muscle product, not fat. AFTER THREE DAYS it is only fat its burning because your body is smart and knows it needs muscle to get around and get more food basically.

here are some facts from another thread I was talking in

-you typically lose a lb a day. and fasting is different from eating veggies. Normally you prepare yourself for a fast by eating veggies, But you arent supposed to even use broth when you are fasting. You want your body to stop pumping enzymes and into your stomach.

Also think of how long your intestines are. Give your body a ing break. Its working all day every day. Imagine the inner healing that will take place when HUGE mass of coils and muscle can be dormant. All energy goes into cleaning skin, ditching toxins, etc...

-see headaches and nausea are usually due to this: Now that your body had time to cleanse all your out it grabs it all and packages it up ready to ship out of your body. If you eat and break the fast the toxin packs will just dissipate back into your body, and while the headache is gone now, the toxins are not. Wait a day or two, youll feel better.

edit
think of it this way. Do you eat when you are terribly sick? No, your body automatically goes into a fast to cleanse itself. water only baby hehe

-Ketones are sometimes referred to as the products of partially burned (or metabolized) fat. If you are not taking in enough carbohydrates or fats to supply your caloric needs, your system first draws upon your stored body fat to supply your energy needs.
But your body does not succeed in completely consuming all the fat it attempts to metabolize in your cells. The waste products of this process - the partially burned fat, or "ashes"- are called ketones. If you are producing them, it is a sign that your body is burning off fat at an accelerated rate; you are enjoying Fast Fat Metabolism.

And that is what we want- the utilization of fat stores for calories and energy. Pulling excess fat out of the fat storage areas is an integral part of an effective reducing process; your body becomes a fat-burning machine.

-also on ketosis. The reason you get it from fasting instead of diet is because in a diet you are still eating. The main benefit of fasting is that the 2nd most energy consuming activity you do (besides keeping several hundred pounds of tissue heated to 98.6 degrees) is digesting. "civilized" countries tend to EAT AND EAT all day long jamming starches and fats and proteins into their stomach.

Imagine a drier. and you take as many wet towels as you can possibly jam into the machine and then you stuff it closed and hit start. You overload your system every single day.

With fasting (and super hydration ((drinking a quart of near-hot water in the morning and through out the day))) Your body can spend time on important stuff, like making white blood cells. I havent been sick in years, and my dad hasnt had a cold since 1987. 1 day of fasting a week is awesome for you, and with what we know today people SHOULD be living to 120 regularly, but they want those krispy kreme doughnts...

-Drinking near hot water serves several purposes:

1) Doesnt need to be heated by your body
2) The nature of hot liquids tends to thin the barriers and is able to super saturate cells and blood stream.

Try drinking only hot water for a week. The first couple times it will make you nauseous. After that you will crave it. It makes all of your veins and capillaries open right up, youll probably start sweating. It jump starts you into being active, and helps everything function better.

Dont be too constant on liquids. Too much water can flush out electrolyte balances. I would say a quart of hot water in the morning, and then a glass every two hours will be more than enough.

try to urinate before bed so your body can focus on other stuff and stop drinking a couple of hours before sleep.

basically go through about 3 quarts - 1 gallon of water a day and youre solid. I prefer getting a 1 gallon water bottle from the store.

-hehe so innocent you feel like for the first day or so because your MIND is used to getting food plus the toxin ready-for-export thing that is happening.. I dont think you udnerstand the latent energy within fat. You dont NEED food. a 40 day fast can do amazing things for you. That long takes a lot of preparation though. a 7-10 day fast lets you build up immunity, repairs cuts and wounds almost instantly, lowers fat %, gets rid of your dependency on sugars, fats, and carbs, and helps you get your body back to a natural** homeostasis.

You lose 1lb a day while fasting, and after that, if you eat like again, youll probably get most of it back. The side effect of fasting is that you tend to eat well after it because your body knows what it is needing, and a nice juicy apple and a green salad sound SOOO good. The thought of a hamburger will make you nauseous.

Plus, what definition of health are you using?

health ( P ) Pronunciation Key (hlth)
n.
The overall condition of an organism at a given time.
Soundness, especially of body or mind; freedom from disease or abnormality.
A condition of optimal well-being:

Fasting lets you rebuild fat barriers around the cell walls to help reduce chances of cancer-causing free radicals penetrate cells and strike DNA (causing the mutations). Lets your liver rebuild itself from the toxins you feed it all day long

AND *Very importantly*

it lets your body start scraping all the (literally) off the lining of your intestines. You jam so much stuff through there all the time, it gets coated over time, and your body isnt able to absorb anything through that barrier. Once the lining is scraped off, you will have SO much more energy during the day because you are actually digesting your food.

If you get a lot of liquidy stool, it is because you eat too much, have too much lining coating, or are sick. In any of those cases your body doesnt have enough energy to fully digest (the drier analogy). So you are purifying yourself for a time of increased health and well being REDUCING the abnormalities in your body.

So yeah, thats why its healthy. I think it is sad that people now a days think that not eating for a couple days is unhealthy, and may kill you. ing pathetic (not you specifically, just fat-ass society). You think before we had domesticated animals and crops they ate every day? Gimme a break!

you dont eat apples btw, just water.

-Raw things digest themselves. As soon as they get oxidized the enzymes within them are released and they start killin themselves. Raw meat, veggies, everything. When you cook it all it kills the enzymes so your body must produce some to get the job done.

Your body isnt used to raw food. So you throw anything in there and its gonna pump enzymes out till it realizes (whoa, this dont need our help)

You only have so many enzymes. Part of the reason for your dying is you run out. Your body stops making them after a while.

You must train your body to not produce so much for stuff. (quit eating fake foods like ing donuts)

Not many poeple are at the level where a raw fast would do the same as a water fast. They throw anything in, their body pumps out, and roils and burbles and its like eatin for sheezay.

Moral: Prep for a fast with a couple of days of raw foods and then fast and then come out with a couple of days of raw food.

start meals with raw foods.

Never eat fruit anything but first. It ferments on top of the other and is bad for you..

more pearls of wisdom later.

isnt it spelled ketone?
SuckUpMySenses
I've always wondered about the temp of water.. This is what I have "heard..."

Cold Water - Good. 1)Speeds up your metabolism 2)The temp of your body warms the cold water to a nuetral temp, thefefore.. drinking cold water is fine..

Tepid - Good. 1) Doesn't "shock" your body 2) Norishes much better

I guess I will think of it in a bathe sense. If you shower in hot water, your skin will age quickly and become dry. If you shower in too cold of water, I'm would hypothesize the effects being the same...(winter = cracked skin, dry lips)

So.. I guess I will go w/ room temperature from now on...

Orbax.. what do you mean by "hot water" can you specify ? Thanks all the info! interesting...

But anyways, I'm thinking of doing this... I've always wanted to get my colon cleansed as well.. thinking it would feel "nice"

;)

check out detox programs on the web - Try staying away from carbs, sugar, alcohol & caffein for 14 days... Drink plenty of water AND 4-8 (1 cup) glasses of unsweetened cranberry juice diluted with water.. Eat plenty of protein, un-starchy veggies and take a multi... After a few weeks add nuts, and low sugar fruits, and low fat dairy back into your diet and finally after 2 weeks now you can ad whole grains..

Just an idea...

i didnt think dry skin in the winter had anything to do with temperature. (except that the lower vapor pressure would cause the humidity to be lower)

the reason winter cracks lips is because there is no moisture in the air. Your skin can tolerate a lot more heat than is necessarily good for it is why scalding hot water does that to you as well.

When I say hot I mean like cup of tea hot.

a colon cleansing is fantastic :D

how so ?

i was just thinking out loud, typing out loud err umm typing away without analyzing what i was typing.. or whatever.

I would just think that ice cold water would make your insides "crack?"
SuckUpMySenses

Are you kidding me ?! A gallon of scalding water a day ??? jesus st. Gwenevere, I've never heard that. Can you elaborate a bit more on why ? Use some analogies similar to the washing machine, dryer, etc.

You heat it up in the microwave ?? It just seems.. insane, i dont know

What does your arm do when you wrap it in ice? Heres a good one

After an injury, blood vessels that deliver oxygen and nutrients to cells are damaged. The cells around the injury increase their metabolism in an effort to consume more oxygen. When all of the oxygen is used up, the cells die. Also, the damaged blood vessels cannot remove waste. Blood cells and fluid seep into spaces around the muscle, resulting in swelling and bruising. When ice is applied, it lowers the temperature of the damaged tissue through heat exchange and constricts local blood vessels. This slows metabolism and the consumption of oxygen, therefore reducing the rate of cell damage and decreasing fluid build-up. Ice can also numb nerve endings. This stops the transfer of impulses to the brain that register as pain.

If you have ever run, you know NEVER drink ice cold water before you go out. It kicks your ass into hibernation and can HURT!

Ice cold stuff feels refreshing, but isnt. It cramps you up and stops you from moving around. Your body is 98.6 for a reason, thats the temp where all chemicals react in you!

Hot water just increases blood flow

no dude...No hehe.

have a quart in the morning to jumpstart then do whatever you want. Drink regularly through the day. Just avoid ice cold stuff before you work out

lol im a girl.. but thanks for all the info! I'll stick to room temp. as I can't see myself drinking hot water in the heat...

I have another question for you sir. I'm getting calloused feet from work.. not bunions or corns.. but just that hard, dead skin around my outer toe. it seems no matter which lotion or what amount, nothing seems to combat the dry skin on my heels or outer toe. help? Yes, I know.. dry feet isn't an attractive matter to discuss.. but let's face reality ? Utter balm worked real well.. I would put it on and then put on socks while I was sleeping at night...
