PRIDE BALL VENUE CHANGE
Pride Ball Toronto, the massive event that will take place next Saturday, announced today that it is changing venues due to the fact that their insurance company cancelled their policy.
This event will still feature some of the best talent at an all-night dance party ever, including our own TAs Sarah Mixington and Chiclet.
Hope to see as many of you there as possible. The venue is changing, but the event remains the same.
Here is the official announcement:
---------------------------------------
Due to an unexpected cancellation by Pride Ball Toronto's insurance
carrier, Pride Ball is unable to be presented at its original
venue.
While this poses an incredible logistic nightmare for the
organizers, it will not, in any way affect the quality of the
event. The entire talent package remains in place, as does the
décor, capacity and other special elements. We will be presenting the
original vision of the event – simply in another venue.
And what a venue it is.
Pride Ball Toronto 2004 will be held at the newly reopened Docks
Complex. The Docks, which just underwent $4 million in extensive
renovations, is the new Canadian home for Godskitchen, the world's
most respected event promotion company.
It also features the largest and most expensive sound system
available in the world, a 10,000 person licensed patio and the
city's largest smoking area! If you haven't yet seen the new Docks,
be prepared to be impressed.
To help ensure that Pride Ball partiers make the transition as
easily as possible, organizers are arranging for beefed up Shuttle
Bus service to and from Pride Toronto's main site.
We look forward to seeing you at Pride Ball Toronto featuring DJ
Barry Harris and Mark Oliver. Don't forget that the main show,
featuring Kara Leslie, Vanessa Olivarez and 8-time GRAMMY Award
Winner Chaka Khan, in a production being produced by Emmy award
winning choreographer David Connolly starts at 12:30 sharp!
The massive patio will feature seven of the city's best and most
diverse DJs, complete with incredible decor and an awe-inspiring
view of the Toronto skyline.
And don't miss the live world premier of Amber's new single and a
stunning late night performance by local up-and-comer Marlon.
We look forward to seeing you all at Pride Toronto's largest
fundraiser ever!

Not to worry Chris...the more I think about this, the more it's a blessing in diguise.
1. People will be significantly more impressed by the space, especially the sound. MARK OLIVER ON THE NEW SOUND SYSTEM!!! :D
2. No matter how many people show up at CNE, it never feels "full", no matter what the layout looks like.
3. People, particularly the smokers, will be happy with the giant patio.
4. Docks is closer to the gaybourhood than the CNE.
5. Better facilities overall (washrooms, for eg.)
Sucks that you guys have all this extra work ahead of you...but I think the venue change is actually a good thing and people should be even MORE excited about the event!!! :) |

Mark, I had these same thoughts today when I got the email.
I think being down by the water, with hopefully a nice sunrise, will be the perfect way to start (and end) my set and everyone's night!
I know the organizers will pull this off despite the last minute glitch. You guys have been doing such a great job already!
5 more days! |

Thansk for your thoughts guys.
I just returned from the Dockas a few minutes ago, and I am pretty much psyched!!!
The space is incredible, and after meeting with the production companies, we came up with a couple amazing ideas for decor and effects that we simply couldn't afford to do at the CNE (union labour was killing us on the funky factor.)
I think Sarah, you may actually be the very first DJ to play on a wild new sound system in the room that used to be known as Tides. Our second room DJs will start the night out under the stars but at 3:00 am, we are moving inside to the Tides space and it will become our second DJ lounge. (don't want to keep the Island residents up all night, do we?)
Just think. Sarah Mixington. Spinning live on the Dynacord Alpha system... the most expensive sound system in the world - accompanied by as mnay as 1,000 of her best friends.
Of course... Chiclet may beat you to the punch (I can't remember the order of second room DJ's off-hand, but if you guys wanted to fight it out to be the first to use the new system, I would be happy to play referee (LOL)
Remember: The venue has changed but everything about the event remains the same. Same capacity. Same talent. Same shows. Same incredible decor and production.
Now, all I need is some sleep.

Chris - I believe Chiclet was slotted for 4am, and my timeslot was 5:30-6:30.
Please let me know if that has changed...I'm sort of confused.
(but I can't wait to play that system...yeeeah!) |

Curious.... the Pride Ball website says 8,000 tickets available, yet the Docks (due to a long list of various liquor and other assorted violations) only has a licensed capacity of 2,500 and change.
Are the organizers expecting half to 2/3 of the crowd to camp out on the outdoor patio all night? |

Hey:
Official capacity for all the rooms we will be using will max out at about 3,600 people. Add to that the massive 10,000 person patio (which is now our 2nd DJ space - and a highly produced venue in its own right.) and capacity shouldn't be an issue.
The crowd we are expecting will be much more mixed than previous years. Some will want to party with Barry Harris, some will want to mellow out in one of the lounges, some will be attending specifically to dance to our second room DJs. |
