Marsh, I have the same needles as scott (and got them from the same place!!).

NEVER had an issue with them in the last 1.25 years I've had them. About to swap my 1st stlii when I get back from Europe...

The contact issue, from what I've been able to read is more of an old wive's tale these days about something to used to happen a bit more a few years ago when they first come out......

here's something to consider if you're to get concordes cartridges.

the type of cartridge nightclubs/pro s etc. is insignificant. you're actually able to interchange any concorde cartridge with any concorde stylus - its the actual needle that matters. i think i read it here on tranceaddict, and its also been confirmed by an ortofon representative. :)

skm you shouldn't really be fussed with the stylus or cartridge dude,
unless your in a DMC comp and wanna scratch the fcuk out of a record, then start checking specs

i got a pair of ortofon pros, no complaints here.

Personally used all the ortofon/stanton cartridges and never been satisfied. Went for the Shure M44-7's and they are a rock solid stylus with the best tracktability on your records. I've never had a needle skip/jump mid-way through cueing or right before mixing (like you occasionally do with the concorde/trackmaster cartridges) and gives an awesome output. My fave fo sho!

Best is to try before you buy and judge for yourself, although it's hard to get a feel for them in one sitting :)

Good luck

Anyone used or got 'pickering' carts?

I've had mine a while and am very happy, thought they were getting tired, went and bought a pair of stanton's.... cried at the poor tracking and volume so put the pickering's back on. 5mv output beats most other stuff out there, but not sure how they compare sound quality wise to the other stuff..

NB anyone thought about getting them sent over from the uk. Chemical records has good prices. I recently got a pair of Sennheiser HD25's, got them sent with a few records, didn't get held up in customs, and saved me over 200 on the phones.....!!

well the shure m44-7 have a 9mV output....haven't checked pickerings although that's not to say they're a bad cart. I guess reputation is built on reliability and success of use for a particular person or application. It can become a pretty personal choice as some people prefer certain brands etc over others (regardless of specs.)...

Tough one really.

Aren't the 447's a scratch cart?... Would they wear the vinyl too much?

Check this link, for some good info.

they are dubbed a turntablist cart....and for scratching. When you weight them right on your tonearm, there is very little weight on the record itself (you've gotta see them to understand). I've used all other brands and IMO these are great...Besides, if you ever DJ out in clubs, the wear you put your records there is far worse than anything your records would experience at home.

Food for thought anyway...

have used pickerings before- i thought they were more studio focused carts? either way they went like a trooper ;)

Hmm, well I've heard the M44-7's are more for turntablin' but I've also seen them around the place quite a lot and they do sound hot regardless. Also, I've had Pickerings since I bought my own decks (18months), they are more of a turntablist design and they haven't skipped a beat (well, maybe a couple- lol..). Having said that, I've also heard that the pickering are made in the same factory as the Stanton 500ALII's and the cart is the same with different styli. And that for sound quality, you can't go past the eliptical ortofon NC's

Sorry if I've confoosed the issue even more for people (haha) but I guess what I'm trying to say as some of you already have is, try em out for a decent period if you can like at a mates place if at all possible, and get an idea for the sound, feel, trackability, etc. Trust your own expeience.

I've heard sales people swear black and blue that "yada yada" is the only option, but your application is the real question. Are you wanting top notch sound for recording, or so you want them to stick like to a blanket?
