Sasha is no longer spining Prog or using vinyl!
Kinna weird info... got this from Toronto board and they got it from NYC board
------------------
DJ Sasha dismissed reports on the web this week that he been angry when a record he ripped off the decks struck a girl in the face, telling Skrufff that he’d actually been larking around, when a dirty record got stuck in its groove.
“I was two thirds into my set, the place was going off and I was enjoying myself when the record started jumping,” said Sasha.
“By the third time it happened, the whole crowd was cheering and I ripped it off and threw it up in the air in an overly theatrical way, certainly not in frustration. I was just being a bit silly and theatrical and I guess the record boomeranged onto something and hit this poor girl on the head.”
The incident happened at Cardiff’s Time Flies event, and effectively finished the party there and then, though Sasha was also keen to refute allegations that he’d been subsequently manhandled from the decks by bouncers.
“Her boyfriend grabbed hold of me, thinking that I’d thrown a glass at her or something and took me backstage and I went into this room with him to see this poor girl there with blood all over her face,” he continued.
“After I’d seen that I was freaked out, I didn’t know how the girl was and I didn’t want her to think I didn’t give a (care-slang ed), by going back on and playing. I was flipped out by the whole thing.”
Sasha said he’s since been in contact with the girl who’s now fully recovered and will be entertaining her and her boyfriend at his next Fabric gig in July. Coincidentally he’ll also have ditched using vinyl altogether by then as well as much of the music he used to play, he said.
“In about three weeks time I’m ditching vinyl and CDs to go out on the road using my computer and that’s going to allow me to mix anything with everything,” said Sasha.
“I’m now actively distancing myself from that progressive sound that was previously attached to me, because it really doesn’t hold much interest for me anymore,” he revealed.
“I think it’s time to move on, maybe I’m looking back to ‘85 instead of ’95.” He added.

SASHA HOSPITALISES FAN ( www.djmag.com )
Words: Terry Church
Superstar DJ Sasha has hospitalised a girl after throwing a record into a crowd at a recent gig in Cardiff. The freak accident occurred at long running club night Time Flies in the middle of a four-hour set.
Witnesses reported seeing the DJ become so frustrated with a skipping record that he threw it into the air, only for it to bounce off the roof before hitting the girl in the face. His set had to be cut short by an hour because Sasha was so distraught about the accident. However there were unconfirmed rumours that bouncers physically removed Sasha from the DJ booth after the incident.
A grave apology posted by Sasha on his website said: "I am writing to say how sorry I am about the accident that happened at my Cardiff gig on Saturday. As you have probably heard, the record I was playing kept sticking, and the third time it happened I just picked up the record and threw it up in the air. I think it must have hit the overhead bar canopy and gone forward into the crowd, where it unfortunately hit the girl."
He continued: "As soon as I realised what had happened I was completely freaked out and couldn’t continue playing. I apologise to the rest of the crowd for cutting my set short, but I was too shaken. I just want to reiterate that it definitely wasn’t thrown at the crowd with any kind of malice. I deeply regret causing any injury, and am desperately trying to get in touch with the girl to she how she is doing."
Henry Blunt, promoter of Time Flies said the accident was tragic because after Sasha left, so did the crowd. He had been trying to book the DJ for ten years: "This was an accident, and there was no intent. The girl required stitches, but it wasn’t that serious."
"Unfortunately, when Sasha left he took the magic with him, and the night came to an end prematurely, right at the peak of his set. We are all hoping for a swift return by Sasha to Cardiff sometime soon."
On a less painful note, Time Flies will make history on 28 July as the first club night to host an art exhibition.
The club night will showcase flyers, posters, photos, and TV footage at the Capsule Gallery on Charles Street in Cardiff to celebrate ten years of successful promotion. The exhibition is free and runs for six weeks.
Clubbing has rarely been accredited as a valuable form of art despite the huge impact it has had on popular culture since the early 90s. This exhibition should be seen as triumph for clubbers, DJs and promoters. |
