Penalties are the fairest way....you win some, you lose some.

Take it from me. I support Italy and we have had our fair share of getting screwed by penalties.

In England's case, you win one, lose four. In Holland's case...you always lose them. it's a crap way to finish a game. It's supposed to be a game of strategy, of play making and movement. To have it decided on spot kicks from 12 yards is just retarded. This is why I give props to the NHL, who just end a game in sudden death. It would probably be better to just REPLAY the game before deciding it on ing penalties. But this isn't the first time somebody has bitched about stupid European rules, nor will it be the last. If any of you want football to survive, I suggest somebody shoot Sepp Blatter.

Its tiring as hell to play 90 mins in an even game.Let alone 120 mins.

I play amateur footy(90mins) every saturday/sunday and it drains alot out of u.

Theres prob not any better way of deciding it at the moment its alot better than the way it used to be decided they used to toss a coin in the middle of the pitch for the winner now thats stupid

In the late 40's and 50's, playing until the winner was found was a common use, Benfica won a Latin Cup (don't ask) by that way, but it was needed 3 extra-times to score the goal, and some players couldn't run anymore. Now that wouldn't be possible, there's always the matter of TV's, and €€.

Of course no!!! The penalty kicks are very interesting and exciting way of ending the game! Sometimes it's not fair, it's a big lottery, players must be well prepared mentally but it makes footbal much more entertaining!!! I remember the USA World Cup in 1994, final: Brazil - Italy and Baggio missing the shot: Brazil are champions. It's simply great, and You can see how much the one shot may change...:D

after seeing the Holland-Sweden game, i think its necessary to end it thats why... worse, they should've skipped the game altogether and do penalty kicks... boredome at its best.

Haha, even Holland can beat its opponent by penalty's!! After losing in '92, '96, '98 and 2000 we have won by taking penalty's...

It wasn't a good game today, but that is not always important in a tournament like this!

About f*cking time too ;)

We finally got rid of our penalty-syndrome.. Playing better than the opponent the whole game but then losing by penalties :whip:

What are you talking about? Did you watch the same game? 1st half was uneventful but the 2nd half and extra time was end to end stuff.

Anyways, penalties are the only way to do it. If you have ever played a 90 min game with 30 min extra time you will know why. And also, FIFA tried the sudden death overtime concept in 1995-1996 where the game would go on indefintiely until a team scored in numerous Asian club games. And well, it was a disaster. Some games lasted forever and players were dehydrated.

of course there was some good shots here and there... but the overall play was broken and both teams had poor control over the ball with neither teams building and keeping pressure over the other team.

i'm not the only saying it was a boring game... agh.
