The vocals and the uplifting-ness don't seem to fit in well together in Smith & Pledger Remix...
/me prefers San Francisco Remix among these 2 rmxes.
S&P: 6.5
SF: 7.8

I thought the original Above & Beyond was rather plain... Not as in boring, but compared to their other songs. It's like chillout with a beat. Good though. If Above & Beyond ever did a slow song, this was it. I mean, look at Billie Ray Martin - Honey (Above & Beyond Remix) or Far From in Love. Much more hard hitting. I was shocked to see Gabriel & Dresden do a remix. They mainly seem to do house and pop remixes, so it was a nice surprise. But I have yet to hear a hard hitting floor filler mix of No One On Earth, then again, the style of the lyrics make it hard. I do admit, I have yet to hear the Sonorous Remix and the Smith and Pledger Remix. :D
By the way, the remix vinyl currently on Chemical Records only lists the San Francisco Remix (another low-key mix), I wonder if the Smith And Pledger is on it as well. Has anyone ordered it from them? Is it just a one-sided vinyl? |

I'm thinking that the main reason that G&D tackled this song was because of the bang up job Above and Beyond did with remixing As the Rush Comes. Perhaps they were trying to repay the favor, which I think they did rather poorly, IMO. But this is just speculation from me, I don't have any facts to support this. |

The promo in Chemical IS a one sided promo.
As for the G&D mix, as Above & Beyond remixed As The Rush Comes, Gabriel & Dresden repayed the favour by remixing their next track, i.e. No One On Earth

The Sonorous remix is pure genius! What bliss! The absolute best mix out've the bunch--and the one I have most respect for! 9.0/10.

San Francisco Mix was really weak, I'm definitely disappointed. It has the exact same problem as the original - everything is oversimplified and the vocal isn't strong enough to carry the tune. The percs are simple, the riff is way too simple and... well... that's all there is, really.
Haven't heard the other mixes but knowing Smith & Pledger they've prolly done a cheap A&B imitation again... so here's hoping the Sonorous mix will be good. |

That's exactly what they've done. Another cheap imitation. Seriously, there seems to be a HUGE lack of innovation in the trance scene these days. And Anjunabeats is the prime suspect. /Waits for Nell to grab throat.

Hmm..guess i'm not alone here. What pisses me off the most is that there is this slew of remakes and remixes of old hits. Only a handful of these are actually good. I mean, how many ing times can you remix a track..
This probably arises from the fact that producers(some) would rather get an old (tried and tested) track remixed..add some fx,per, synths etc. instead of starting from ground up and composing new material.
The ONLY good remixes that I have heard this year are Synaesthesia 2004 and First Strike 2004.
Later.. |
