mal wieder von dem anderen board kopiert, stört Euch nicht an den für Euch unbekannten Namen. Hab einige TAs getroffen, u.a. Lunasea, Jon, natürlich Brianna (thanks for the after-hours :)), auch drizzt mit rubyriva war da!
I had been tempted to go ever since the after party at Spirit/Twilo was announced, if only to be back at that space, with PvD, to go down memory lane. Alas, all airlines didn't think so, there were no tickets at reasonable prices to be had, 700 and up thank you. So my secret hope was for l-tur, a last minute agency that exclusively sells Lufthansa last minute tickets here. After coming back from Barelona on Sunday, well Monday really, my daily check there turned up nothing - until Thursday. So now my head was rushing to get the minor details such as tix to CP and Spirit and a place to stay settled. Tix were no problem, still available online from ticketweb. Luckily I got a hold of my friends I usually stay with, as always they said I'm crazy but I'm most welcome to use the apartment, though they were to head ot of town Saturday morning. So I was all set, a eur 359 LH ticket was mine :)
So Friday afternoon I'm off. The flight had one advantage, that was also a disadvantage, which turned into somewhat of an advantage, in that it was leaving Frankfurt 5:20 pm, so I didn't even have to take the day off, but was due to arrive at JFK 7:25, much too late for SS. On top of that, apparently due to the rain there was a massive line of planes waiting to take off and blocking our acces to the terminal building, so we sat on the tarmac, helpless, for ing 45 minutes, PvD's set slipping away. Well, finally we docked, I was out and through immigration in literally about 1 minute (thanks to my magical card ;)) and despite heavy traffic the cab made it to the park in 45 minutes. I got there 9:15 and like everyone else, the bass got me really excited, unlike the rain. With my bag of course still with me, it wasn't so bad after all to have only 45 minutes at the park, only the unanimous comments about the set I got from everyone did upset me. What must I have missed :( Anyway, getting there I briefly verntured into the crowd in search of GNers, but met a bunch of TAs instead. Finally met everyone at that tent in the back. So happy to see Matt & Nikki, who told me they'd even be at Spirit, contrary to the original plan. Yay!! And of course Gaaf, who had just gotten there, too, and was miserable due to the 4 hour drive he had to put up with. Hugging everywhere :grouphug:
From the bits I got at the park I could see my predictions of a fantastic PvD performance made after the last Vandit Night did come true. Much harder and darker than I had anticipated for the park show, but maybe indeed due to the rain, as has been said earlier.
After that Gaaf dropped me off at my friends' apartment in Chelsea where I had to go to drop my bag and get the keys. At midnight I was at Spirit and was surprised to see no line whatsoever, probably people were still busy drying themselves off. Met Mike Bindra who told me they had put a Steve Dash system in fro the night, I was delighted to hear that. Was inside in no time and found the GN crew as well as a bunch of TAs throughout the night. Everyone was like, "no way what are YOU doing here?" ;) The Spirit space was still recognizable as the old Twilo, but a far cry really. First thing I noticed was the missing disco ball. They had one, but that was a joke, small and hardly visible where it was. Dance floor much smaller too and no room around it as there used to be. then this useless upper level with restaurant, VIP areas and what not, didn't like that either. Anyway, we were here for the music, not the room.
I have to agree with Greg, Jerry Bonham was a phenomenal opener, I really don't understand why they put up with the likes of Luis Diaz or Edgar V at the Roxy all the time. Got me in the right mood right away. Hearing that PvD's set was delayed to 2 am but to be 3.5 hours was good news, too. And when da man finally came on he wasted no time. Hard, dark, absolutely no fluff and cheeze, yeah, that's what I wanted and expected after Berlin. The best moments were when I closed my eyes, thinking to myself "this is Twilo" - that would send shivers down my spine and goose bumps all over my body.
Except for the breaks parts (of course ;)) I loved all of his set. Only in retrospect I have to again agree with Greg that the last hour had a lot of breakdowns/build-ups which were pleasantly absent from the earlier part of the set. But still hard, still banging, in no way the "usual" fluffy trance.
Though I did miss 2 really good parties here in Germany, I have no regrets. It was worth every penny, PvD, the vibe, the group, and first and foremost to see Matt & Nikki off, which in fact was one of the main drivers of my desire to go. I will skip the shout-outs to everyone else, you know who you are, love you!
