Thanks indeed to Mark Oliver, Sarah and Chiclet for their Pride Ball sets Saturday night at the Docks! Thanks as well to chrismack for helping to put together this massive event and deal with a venue change only days before the party.
MO's set was a GREAT start to the night...not his typical Guv type sets, of course, but full of energy and really had me motivated...if only he could have done the whole night because Barry Harris was...um...not so fun. Awful set...not my thing at all. In between MO and Chiclet's sets, I ended up spending 90% off my time chatting to various people outside of the main room. Why someone who does have crossover appeal with the gay community, like Steve Lawler, never gets booked is beyond me...I guess the fear is that a DJ who is unknown to the bulk of the gay community won't result in enough ticket sales...very unfortunate!
I caught all of Chiclet's set and only missed the closing minutes of Sarah's (since some of my non-EDM-fan friends insisted on leaving by that point). Both of you were *very* welcome additions to what is usually just circuit hell at these events. I would have left long before had there not been that trance and funky techno to enjoy :)
Sarah...sorry...vitually all of my pics turned out terrible...hopefully Jay's turned out better...bad lighting and I didn't set my camera properly to compensate.
Quite a few familiar faces, and even a few TAs, were there to enjoy the trance and techno in the VIP room too. Too bad the weather was on the cold side and the patio really didn't see much activity.
All in all, I had a good night, mainly from meeting and chatting to various people...musically...well...Barry Harris ensured that it will have been be my one "circuit party" for the year, I'm sure...bring on Armin on the boat!!! :D |
