so satan went up to heaven one day, and started shooting the with God. [as they always do]. God got to bragging about his faithful servant Job, a kind and generous human being that gave as much as he received. Satan replied that Job only loved him so much because God gave him so much. So they had a little bet, in that God would take everything away from Job and maintained that Job would continue to praise and thank God just because that's the sort of swell guy Jehovah was.
God cues the plagues, kill the kids, servants, wife, cattle, sheep, destroy the property and wait for the love and praise from his good little boy Job.

And so Satan keeps on pushing the buttons and keeps the bet going on a little further, stating that Job still has his dignity. Sickness and boils come along and make Job completely miserable.
the bible is incredibly longwinded and i can't bring myself to write much more of the story; i'm sure most of you are at least a little bit informed on the happenings: Job gets all his back because he's a good little worshipper, God was right, Satan was wrong, all good little worshippers should never question the higher power and live in sheer ignorance, and thus be rewarded for blind faith.
all that aside..
why was God torturing the psyche of a human being in order to prove a point to Satan?
and.. why was Satan even stopping by? |
