I read an article in Mix Mag the other day and read a funny quote. When asked about what it takes to become a superstar DJ and who is up and coming Tiesto said:
| quote: | | Eddie Halliwell is one of the best DJ's around. He's technically better than I am, but he doesn't make any records. If you want to be a superstar DJ you have to make hit records. |
I love Tiesto to death but come on Tiesto...plenty of people are technically better THAN YOU... |

| It's not like Tiesto said Halliwell was the only DJ better than him, or one of a select few. I'm sure he's aware that he's not the most technically skilled DJ out there. Of course he's right though, just look at the number of artists given gigs based on producing credentials alone. Some of them can barely beatmatch. |

I definitely agree with Tiesto that you have to produce these days to achieve "superstar" status.
James Zabiela is one of the only DJs i can think of who is really up there without producing much (correct me if i'm wrong) |

| As if Halliwell isn't superstar status alerady though. Residencies at Gatecrasher and Goodgreef, and having played at huge nights in places such as Ibiza equals super star status in my views. And if that quote is true then it's very big of Tiesto to admit that. Halliwell is more technical than most DJ's who play that kind of style of music. |

ya, that's true, usually when he gets asked about something like that he always tends to answer with stuff like "Well, I'm number one, let's just leave it at that...etc." |

Hummm well, DJ-ing isnīt all that about technical skills. It is a combination of skills, reading the crowd, having your own tracks and knowing which track you should play at the right moment. I think tiesto has the totall package of all those things. He may have lesser skills but as for reading the crowd and taking the crowd on a journey he is above almost everybody!
By the way I have heard tiesto multiple times performing live and he makes trainwrecks but not more or less then other big name djs.

humm wel he is big, but he isnt a superstar dj yet. He is really known by the uk audience, for internationally crowds he hasnīt done enough to play with the big boys. For example he only got a few gigs in holland past years thats weird since uk hh, harddance is quitte big in holland. |
