Orbital - Blue Album (final album)

This is what trance should sound like and not the BOOM BOOM BOOM that some big name deejays (who should have stayed being just a deejay) popularised. I could have done without some of the voice samples that were tossed in the tracks though.

As much as I like Orbital, their past albums have all sounded similar (as compared to the diversity of their first four albums) so I guess they made the right decision in moving onto other projects.

I hope the CA release will be a double again :) .

I ing love this album... there are a few oddball tracks but what would Orbital be without them, eh? :)

And the closer track, One Perfect Sunrise could not had been a better way to end their career. It's just... perfect.

We'll miss you...

Just bought both 12" and CD versions of the album and i couldn't agree more with Mystery.

I love the album except for a few tracks but mostly it follows the high, partly odd standards we're used to get from the Orbital duo.

One Perfect Sunshine is indeed a perfectly beautiful track to end their long journey.

A must buy for every Orbital fan!

I’ve been meaning to have a listen to this for a while, but vinyl purchases have been getting in the way!

no i don't care if you don't like it. but you seem to be unable to appreciate the fact that orbital has been an influencial part of the development of EDM.

Praise for Orbital. Their quirky sense of melody mixed with socially activist and other political messages, not to mention some of the choicest samples around, have long been a mainstay in my CD player. Anyone new to Orbital should start with their Work compilation -- you get some of the most important singles in EDM, cited time and time again, in one neat little package. "Halycon + On + On"? Yes. "Satan"? Yupsureyabetcha. And my own personal simple fave, "Lush 3-1".

While The Blue Album isn't my favorite of all the works they've composed, I do have a few fave tracks on it. "A Perfect Sunrise" is one of them, love Lisa Gerrard's exquisitely mixed and effected vox over the stormy clatter of trance-esque beats. (Like the earlier "Halcyon", note the trance elements with a syncopated breakbeat.) I also thoroughly enjoyed "Bath Time", which is somewhat reminiscent of Wendy Carlos, but more linear in its structure. That melody is so catchy with its angular, chimey drift. Uplifting, yet a bit melancholy. The past and future collide here.

A fitting way to say goodbye... but let's see what the Hartnoll brothers come up with individually next.

the fact that they've been a big part of EDM doesn't score the album bonus points in my opinion

i never stated my stance on the artist themsleves, i just think that this album was

While overall it might not be their best album I'd say it's far better than their previous album (The Altogether) which was pretty damn poor.
