All the TA's who were there should fess up that they got pwned by George Acosta! :p
Just kidding... he's not a DJ's DJ, but everyone seemed to have fun.
The speakers (and some lights) that were used for PVD were taken away, so the sound this time wasn't quite as good.
The music was so loud! Makes you wonder how much hearing he has lost.
Also, the volume control was kinda bad at times.
Muscially, I thought he played a little too hard a little too much for my tastes.
There are some positive reviews on CP though.

Vic came on at 4:30 am (Acosta started at 2 am), and the music sounded much better of course, but unfortunately he had to stop at 5:15 am. Lots of people still there at closing, and wanting more.
Also, excellent opening set by Powerstar Im. The A/C in the club was mad cold during his set though.

It was also unfortunate that they closed the bar completely at 4 am - you couldn't even get a Red Bull or bottled water after that time, and I sure could've used one then.

Well....

I got there at about 1:20am with Patrick, Briana and a afew others. We realised that Acosta was not on yet and were like WTF?!?! Then Finally when he got there were soo dissappointed. WOW!!! If you are getting paid that much money atleats play some good tracks. I'm not a DJ but I know how to vibe off of a crowd. Not to mention the fact that it wasn't just loud, but the "highs" were all the way up with the right amount of base, and what seemed like practically no "mids". It was painfull to listen for a while. Oh and Mr. Acosta was train recking like crazy. WTF?!!! I love to dance and will dance if I hear a good beat, but when you're DJing it totally messes everything up when you can't do a very simple transition right. He was DJing that night like it was his first gig ever. Harsh I know but most of the people felt the same way.

The second Victor came on all the people on the dance floor who didn't know what to do with them selves were dancing their asses off. Victor was amazing 'as always'. But excuse me he could only play for 45 minutes? Are you guys retarded? Seriously! He was killing it and they made him stop. Bitches!! You know it is bad when the crowd starts to chant "Spirit Sucks! Spirit Sucks!" over and over again.

And closing off everything at 4am? Why? I would have loved a red bull and a water but was told "NO!". I was very dissappointed with Spirit last night. I think they really f**ked up bad. I will definetely think again before I say yeah let's go to spirit. It's a nice place and all but the management IMHO does not really know what they are doing.

Oh and lastly. I bet they made a lot of money last night. I heard people saying how much it sucked and that they were getting drunk so that they could suppress the badness.

I am usually not this harsh, but I really felt strongly about this. I hope that others had a better experience than me and everyone that I talked with.

Carry On!

Yea I find it surprising how I enjoyed the opening DJ and the closing DJ more than the main DJ himself.

I liked some of the tunes that Acosta played but yea his mixing stinks, and towards the end he played really hard, and there really wasn't any vibe. So I sat down a waited for Victor to come on. And yea I was definitely disappointed when he only spun for freakin 45 minutes. And the stupid jerk offs wouldn't even let him do an encore. Bleh. Oh well, I tried to make the most out of it and I had fun seeing some TA's: mets4012, hitokiri, partyhopper, Trance@CU, vadushka, pyro and slyfox, aya brea, Sunshine and AstralNRG. :)

Its Louie Devito.

and now my story:

I did not get to the club until about 4am, contrary to what Adam said. Adam and the crew left early to catch the guestlist but I was just too sick to leave my house. Last weekend caught up to me on Friday and I was a disaster. But DAMN did I want to go so bad. So I took some dayquil and relaxed in my bed for 3 hours and then left to get to club for Vic's set at 4. I had to pay $25 to get in since I missed the list, but special thanks to Vic for giving me a comp even if i didn't get to use it.

As it turned out, I am glad I DIDN'T get to the club early because there is no way I would have lasted through Acosta's set. I never liked him in the first place but last night was horrendous. My ears were hurting the minute I hit the dancefloor and I was just cringing. I really can't believe it was that bad. It is the worst experience I have ever had with a DJ. Worse than Jules at Arc, it was just bad. No vibe, no energy, just screeching, banging tracks that were radiating through me. I sat down and waited for Vic to come on.

When he finally did, everyone was cheering and, as Adam said, the sound improved immediately. My ears stopped hurting and I was beginning to get energy and have a good time. Next thing I know, they are telling Vic to end his set. I couldn't believe it. Every single person in the club was on their feet, dancing and screaming. Yes, the crowd was small but so what? Most of us paid to see Victor and that's what we wanted. Spirit should have let him play longer..it was a really bad move on their part.

Anyway, Vic did a great job during the short time he had and I enjoyed every minute. I will still go see him wherever he spins but I certainly won't be "promoting" spirit.

What was the tracklist? I only specifically remember Holding on to Nothing.

sidenote: I really want to commend Victor on his ability to tweak a system and deliver the best sound possible from whatever equipment he is using. Sound/intonation is extremely important to me. I cannot fully appreciate music if the sound quality is bad. It doesn't matter how great the mixing, beat matching and track selection are..if it hurts my ears I lose focus. The very first time I heard Vic spin I was impressed by his incredible talent for delivering high quality sound. Perhaps his hearing is better than other DJs or something, I really don't know, but it makes a world of difference and is just ANOTHER reason why Victor Dinaire is an extraordinary DJ.

ps: nice to see
