Famous DJs and Harmonic Mixing
View this Thread in Original format
DJ Dingel
Which of the big name DJs consistenly mix harmonically? Are there notables that frequently key clash?

I know that Tiesto fans frequently praise his harmonic mixing. What about other top jocks?

i know olkie does it, think ferry as well. But then again it depends on your deffiniton of harmonic mixing, theirs the proper version where you calculate the keys befor hand and then do it like that or theirs the do it on the run where you can kinda just tell in your head, if you play any instroment you allready know what harmonic clashes sound like thus when you start mixing theirs no need to learn it (at least tahts how it was for me)

u dont even have to play an instrument to hear a big harmonic clash..

my professor told me that .01% people in america are tonedeaf. its very rare, so when the usual people say their tonedeaf, what they mean to say is, "musically challenged"

I think I read someplace that most people that are tonedeaf are also dyslexic.

I'm tone deaf and I'm not cixelsyd. There goes that theory.

I just wanted to spell dyslexic backwards. :)

I have Dyslexia and I'm not tone deaf. In fact my Dr recently checked my ears because he knowns I'm a DJ and he said hearing as good as mine only occurs in 1 in 25,000 people. I'm saying that I am special or that it makes me a better DJ -- just that being Dyslexic has nothing to do with your hearing. :)

And just to throw that theory wide open, I am dyslexic ( And dyslexia is about much more than just reading and writing) but not tone deaf (At least I don't think so he he).

With regards to the big names who do it, I have a small list of the ones I know do it to 100%.

Tiesto (Although I have to be honest, he is not consistent with this)
Armin (Possibly the best DJ around at the moment on this point)
Sasha
Oakie
PvD
JFK
Corsten
Zabiella
Jules (Again not consistant and can pull some real mingers out from time to time).
Eddie Halliwell
Fergie
M.I.K.E.
Picotto

In order to work a dancefloor properly it's an essential skill and there are no two ways around it. Some of these guys will do it without knowing they do, but it's there either way.

People look down on it sometimes but it is what makes the difference and it's not enough just to know how to do it, you also have to know how to use it to your advantage.
