Athlon Help..

Planing on picking up a new cpu & motherboard. Was going to grab the Athlon MP 2800+ (2.08GHz). Seems pretty good for what I want, it's under $200. It was either that or the Athlon 64 2800+ (1.8GHz/1600).
Good choice?

| I would always go for the 64 above a normal one, there's a better chance of expansion in the future imo |

| I have an Athlon 64 3200+ ing fast ass computer :) built it myself with an asus k8v motherboard. Radeon 9800 pro. Farcry Flawless. |

I'm not totally sure what the MP 2800+ is like, If its like we buy here, its the same as the XP 2800 ? if so, the 64 is a better option imho, the newer technology & more powerful |

Nope. The XP is a different processor than the mp. The 64 seems higher in price for lower speed as well I assume it's pretty damn fast. Not sure if it's all around a better card than the MP 2800 though.

well, given that the 64 in the name refers to the bandwidth of the processor, id say go for the 64 bit.
think of the MP as a 32 lane highway of 1's and 0's, and the 64 as a 64 lane highway. the info is going through the 64 much faster. |

| yeah, speed is 'sacrificed' but the overall power in a 64 bit processor is worth the extra money, you'll notice the difference (providing you add decent accesories) |

on a slightly unrelated note, i pissed myself today when i read a Dell Advert in the paper.... 'brand new p4 3ghz...... (carried on reading) 256mb ram - how pathetic is that for a new pc :( and to think some people will pay for the machine when it's blatantly going to need at least 2, ideally at least 4 times that ram |
