That bloody dingo

What are your thoughts on the new claims that the old man shot the dingo that attacked azaria all those years ago?

Is he telling the truth, or is it a case of dementia kicking in?

Personally, I think the whole thing is pretty interesting. To me, his story is plausible but not really believable. It fits with what's generally known about the case, but there are really too many problems with his account to declare the mystery solved.

Firstly, the baby's jumpsuit was found separately (ie not with the body), and it wasn't torn to shreds as if by an animal, so someone had to have done something with it. Whether it was this old codger and his mates, I don't know. However, if they really did remove the baby from the jumpsuit, why weren't their fingerprints or handprints (or DNA) on it?

Secondly, why take the body back to Melbourne? A dead and decomposing baby (particularly one that's been mauled by a dingo) isn't something you're going to sneak through customs or take on a plane as hand luggage, nor are you going to put it in the back of the car.

Thirdly, the dingo incident happened at around dinner time, 7-8pm or so if my memory serves me correctly. This bloke reckons they were out hunting rabbits. Who the fuŠk hunts rabbits in the dark?

The policeman who started the original investigation had other doubts as well, like the amount of blood on the jumpsuit. He also reckons that either he or another policeman in the area would've heard gunshots (remembering that sound travels a long way in the desert).

It's all very interesting though, I don't imagine this case will ever really disappear from the headlines.

Why the hell would you stop your car to shoot a dingo you saw had a dead baby then drive off with the dead baby and bury it in someone's backyard instead of calling the cops? Crazy old man.

he said that they agreed not to call the police or say anything to anyone about it because they didn't want to get implicated in the scene. Now that makes him look even more sus. He also said he couldn't sleep at nights because of the incident, but being such a "decent man" how did he sleep so well all these years having an innocent woman serving time in jail on his conscience.. i question his honesty.

EVERYONE!!
If you were a country bumpkin like myself all hunting occurs during the night in a specatcle called "spotlighting". You get a realy powereful spotlight and smine it around and it is VERY easy to see animals, their eyes reflect the light. Also the light stuns them making them easy targets. It's easier to hunt during the night than in the day.

Having said that, i still think this guy is full of .

you beat me to the comment about spotlighting stamper (u bastard! :D).. though for me we never went spotlighting before about 9pm, you want it to be pitch black before u go hunting 7-8pm seems a little early in the evening for me but who knows it might get dark early out at uluru?

I doubt the truth will ever really be known...

Thats cold man.

Nah i don't go hunting myself, but i lived on a farm for a year so thats how i know. And you hunt mainly because foxes / rabbits etc kill cute little baby sheep, goats and cows. They're the cruel bastards in all of this.
