Hey there, im not sure if this is the right forum for these questions, if not i would appreciate if the mod redirect me. Much thanks for answers to the questions:
Q1: Im starting to acquire a lot of vinyl and i was wondering if anyone had any ways of organizing that was helpful to them, that i could try? Id love to be more organized.
Q2: When you are recording a mix for promotion, how many times do you screw up before you are happy with the final product?
thanks for your help

| well u could buy one of those cute udg bags.... as for how many times u fix a screwed up product for promotion? if ur talkin about handin out demos, and ur screwin up like that, ur not trying to make a demo. ur talkin about making a cd... 2 different things. besides the fact if ur screwing up and refixing things at home for demos, how would u plan on doing a set in front of people? u dont think the people that hire you arent gonna be like "ok somethings wrong here..." they mite think u jacked someone elses good demo, ne things possible i dunno. but good luck either way |

minor mistakes add character- (im talking very very minor) and show its not done all on pro tools or something. You can ocassionally turn mistakes into good things tho- as long as its not a total buffalo stampede.
Besides, no demo is going to be over an hour or so (80 mins mas methinks as thats max for a cd) so it hardly takes long to redo it.
As for organising, each to their own- but my gigging stuff is boxed into seperate boxes according to style, house, trance, urban etc, and the rest of vinyl mountain is in random crap order in big piles. |

for organizing, just go pick up some milk crates from walmart. i only have about 130 records but i have them separated by vocals and non vocals. or just have a crate for prog, one for tech, one for house, whatever.
as for recorded mixes. i have about a dozen or so recordings and most of them sound really good. except for one or two little screw ups. i will keep redoing them untill i think one of them is good enough to start handing out, untill then practice practice practice. |
