The return of Police Academy!!!!

After a decade’s absence from theatres, that lovable cop comedy franchise is coming back with a new installment. That means movie lovers can look forward to seeing the eighth “Police Academy.”

Series creator Paul Maslansky says he’ll combine both new and “original talent” for this latest offering. "We became very much like a family," he said. "It's is very unusual to have seven films with virtually all the same major cast."

The original cast, as many will remember, includes Steve Guttenberg, Kim Cattrall, big Bubba Smith, blone bombshell Leslie Easterbrook, and master of voices Michael Winslow.

So why bring back the series after all these years?

“I felt it was time to start again,” Maslansky said. “I saw that 'Starsky & Hutch' and a number of other revivals were doing really well. 'Police Academy' has such a great history. I thought, ‘Why not?’”

The project is in the development stages right now. There aren’t even any writers yet, and the exact direction of the film hasn’t been determined.

There’s no secret behind what’s driving this venture. The franchise has brought in more than $230 million at the domestic box office since it hit screens in 1984. Since that initial flick, we’ve seen subsequent works like "Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment" released in 1985, "Police Academy 3: Back in Training" in 1986, "Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol" in 1987, "Police Academy 5: Assignment: Miami Beach" in 1988 and "Police Academy 6: City Under Siege" in 1989. The last film, “Police Academy 7: Mission to Moscow,” was in theatres in 1994.
