here's the festival highlights:
================================
MANITOBA (Fri., July 9, 9:30pm): Currently in the middle of a cross-Canada tour, Dundas, Ont. native Dan "Manitoba" Snaith is a busy man. He's toured North America, Europe, Japan and Australia this past year and still has found time to work on a new album. Describing it as "not so much of a surprise change as with [2003's] Up in Flames, but already sounding distinct," Snaith predicts a spring 2005 release. By then, he also expects to have completed his Ph.D. Phew!
MOONSTARR (Fri., July 9, 11pm): Performing a live PA at BB&C with MCs including Voice, Jugular, Vandal and Prof. Fingers, Moonstarr is ready to showcase many a new tune. Watch for his forthcoming Detroit EP on Germany's Sonar Kollektiv; the much-anticipated 2005 release of What's Wrong With This Pictureon Compost; and a slew of new releases on Moonstarr's own Public Transit Recordings. Moonstarr tours Canada with LAL in October and the US later this year.
ADAM MARSHALL (Sat., July 10, 5pm): "I'm moving deeper into the intersection of house and techno," says Marshall, whose latest 12-inch is called "Experimental House Approach" and is released on Chicago's Antenna Recordings. Watch for a coming split EP (with Polmo Polpo) on local label Supesharu and the birth of Marshall's own label New Kanada, which will be "releasing only Canadian artists." Marshall tours Europe in the fall and is currently at work on the soundtrack for a UK-produced documentary about electronic music.
NICK HOLDER (Sat., July 10, 9pm): Toronto house hero Nick Holder is currently at work on his next solo album, to be released on Bristol's NRK in 2005. Additionally, he and Kaje are deep into the creation of a collaborative Trackheadz album, expanding their sounds to include downtempo, broken-beat and hip-hop. Holder is steadily busy, turning out remixes, running his DNH label, and making plans to tour Europe in the late fall.
DINO & TERRY (Sun., July 11, 3pm): Holding down two current DJ residencies (Fridays at Alto Basso and Saturdays at C Lounge), the brothers Demopoulos continue to work away on fresh house productions. New and future releases on their Crash Records include "Think of You," a D&T collaboration with vocalist Alana Bridgewater and titles from artists including Toronto's Nöel Nanton, Sweden's Markus Enochson and Parisian Franck Roger.

Going to check this on Sunday.
I saw somewhere (sorry can't remember where) that there will be a scratch duo performing during the playing of an old school kung foo movie. They match there scratching to the tone and tempo of the movie. This is something I really want to check out. With the new DVJ getting some attention, I can see more DJ sets combining visuals with music. James Zabelia says he's working with this technology right now....
It's definitely worth while to check out |

Hop-Fu
July 11th, 4 pm
The Studio Theatre
Hop-Fu features DJs IXL and Excess of the Kolabz crew who conduct a LIVE score of the Kung Fu cinema masterpiece, "The Prodigal Son," complete with kicks, punches and jabs that are synchronized with scratching, tweaking and mixing of hip-hop recordings. A brilliant melding of kung-fu energy with two of the top hip-hop DJs in the country! Hop-Fu is the brainchild of Barry Cole and John Carluccio (dir. of BATTLE SOUNDS) who have a vision of bonding film and DJ composition to create inspiring and exciting work. DJs IXL and Excess embraced this musical experimentation of matching tempos of songs to moods of scenes and testing scratches and juggles over dramatic action. The results are at times funny, intense and imaginative.
About the artists:
-DJ Excess (Kolabz crew) is a New York based turntablist who performs and competes worldwide. His Battle Credits include 2000 ITF-USA champion, 2000 ITF Western Hemisphere Scratching champion.-DJ IXL (Kolabz crew) is a New York based turntablist who performs and competes worldwide.His Battle Credits include 2000 DMC Eastcoast Head to Head runner-up. This year he released the jungle-hip-hop mix tape "Constant Changes" with DJ Kech.
