| Terrorists want Kerry elected, so they will time any disruptive attacks accordingly. Status quo with Bush means they will be hunted down like animals. I like the status quo, attacks or not. |

Yeah. No one makes it a story. Its usually just a continuous graphic like the stock market scroll. I just think having a color coded sytem is kind of demeaning. Its like this country is run by children for children. |

| It's really not all that complicated. Q5echo stated it quite succinctly. Instead of underreacting to every sign of a possible terrorist attack, the government is going to overreact to every sign of possible terrorist attack. Therefore, if one does indeed happen, they can say, "see we told you so ...". It's ludicrous to believe that the governemnt can prevent any planned attack regardless of how prepared they are (as the Israelis can probably attest to), but what it can do is reasonably lessen accountability or responsiblity by establishing that it wasn't completely in the dark. Therefore, the alert system is more political than anything else, and you really do have public outrage to thank for it. Do you honestly think the CIA/NSA/FBI/whoever really want the terrorists to know that they know that they're planning something? It gives away our eavesdropping capabilities and the terrorists will likely improve their planning capabilities to such a point where they can plan an attack without raising the terror alert level and then implement the attack. In cases of national security such as these, the public's right to know is somewhat silly imo. |

Everyone already knows its just W's administration ensuring November. People think "Oh, we cant elect someone different while the terror level is elevated" but I think we have to remember who CREATED the terr-o-meter. Things would be so different right now had Gore been elected.
