Apparently not.....

SNOW: Well, you’re absolutely right though, it’s going to be fun to see. Now John Kerry, is it true that John Kerry asked you to be his vice president?

McCAIN: Uh, no. No, it was never offered.

SNOW: It was never offered. So, it may have been discussed elliptically, but never flat out request.

McCAIN: Never was an offer, no.

SNOW: When you had conversations, did you think it was a little weird that he’d be calling you, even in general terms about this sort of thing?

McCAIN: Well, he and I have been friends for a number of years because of our efforts on POWs and MIAs which was a very hot issue back in the early 90’s, a lot of people have forgotten about it, but it was a- and we worked together to try to resolve that issue and I appreciate the work that he did on it. And, so it’s not unusual for us to have conversations.

SNOW: Right. But, so- I want to just lay to rest once and for all: never approached you, never hinted that he wanted to talk to you about being vice president. All that kind of stuff was made up.

McCAIN: Well, I cannot attest to that. All I can tell you is my conversations with him were private conversations, but he never offered it.

In all honesty, it really shouldn't be anything against conservatives or liberals for that matter. If Kerry did actually try to get McCain on his election ticket, I personally see nothing but positivity out of that.

But I hope you're not pleading ignorance, because it was the Bush Campaign that immediately began rolling out the propaganda of Edwards being Kerry's "second choice":

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5365307/

quote:
Bush’s political team planned to air a television ad titled “First Choice” featuring Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., an effort to paint Kerry’s running mate as his second choice. McCain had reportedly rejected Kerry’s overtures to be No. 2 on the Democratic ticket. Kerry, for his part, never said he had offered the position to McCain.

JOHN KERRY’S SECOND CHOICE: Kerry/Edwards ‘04: “The Ultimate Flip-Flop”

When John Kerry’s first choice for a running mate turned him down, he turned to the polls.

quote:
Already the Bush campaign has released ads touting John McCain's support for Bush and reminding voters that Kerry almost desperately wooed McCain to be his running mate.

The Bush campaign is right on this point. There are only two criteria that would qualify John Edwards as the second pick to John McCain. The first is if Kerry had a peculiarly narcissistic desire to only consider veep candidates named "John."

It also released a television ad showing Sen. John McCain of Arizona praising Bush during a recent speech -- a spot apparently intended to remind voters that Kerry had courted the GOP decorated war veteran as a possible running mate.

Mitt Romney, the Republican governor of Kerry's home state of Massachusetts, called Edwards "not a bad choice for his second pick."

hehe. Guess I really should start listening to NPR a bit more. Go away from liberal news and your mind gets all peaceful and tranquil.

Guess I should plug back in to find out politicians are behaving like politicians though, huh?
