Urgent help with my Comp

Hey yall, I came back home from the weekend and found out that my comp cant load windows98, I can get in through safe mode, but not normaly, Iīve checked the msconfig for suspicious things, and the registry were windows runs stuff at startup. Recently a friend of my moms instaled one of those evil LOL search bars for the explorer, wich I swiftly uninstalled before leaving for the weekend. Is there a prog that could run in Ms dos to analize what the heck is wrong with win98 or do I just format and install everything again? :wtf:
wich is my last hope, not interested informating anything right now...

It's a bit difficult to give any advice coz it could be any number of problems.
I'd doubt it would be anything to do with the search bar you removed... did you uninstall it through the registry or anything like that coz it's possible you could have changed something you shouldn't by mistake. ??
Can't really help sorry, my best advice would be re-install win98....you shouldn't have to do a full format, so you wont have too much to do if you want to get things back as they were; just setup windows again and re-install a few programs. |

what happens when u try normal mode? any error messages?
try a logged boot, then review the log in safe mode, that should give u an idea of where u ed up. |

if it goes to safe mode its a driver issue.
try taking out your sound card and starting up that seriously the problem 80% of the time hehe.
Then try the NIC.
If its stops during that load up bar during the first 1/4 its drivers.

Yeah I new the prob would be too general, I uninstalled the bar normally via Add/remove progs, I read the Bootlog.txt and the only odd stuff was that it couldīt load some TTF fonts, those were the only load fails in the whole txt.
I havenīt installed anything new in hardware recently, could it be some kind of virii or spyware?
after readin the thread about the spyware stuff I downloaded spybot S&D and spywareblaster on my office comp so far spybot has found 4 probs with my comp I would guess that my house comp could be like that too.
Does spybot S&D and spywareblaster work in safe mode?
o well its looking like I have to reformat again (I know that i donīt need to reformat but I like to whipe the slate clean after these kind of problems) |
