Martijn, my advice to you, is to NOT buy any decks or a mixer yet.

i would download myself something like traktor or Virtual turn tables (there are plenty of cracked versions around) and download a healthy amount of MP3's.

Try your hand with them at mixing and beat matching, altering the pitch and stuff and see if u really want to do mixing.

U may find after a couple of weeks its not what u want and then u find yourself with decks u dont want and have to try to sell.

on the other hand u may take to mixing and want to do it, that is when u decide on wether to buy decks or not.
remember the cost does not stop once u got decks.
u got to buy needles for them and in this day and age when CD is prevalent needles tend to be expensive
the needles for my technics are £80 each !
Vinyls themselves are not cheap either
average £10 each
so if u have decks and no vinyls u are going to look silly.

If you are really serious about wanting to learn how to mix i will burn u a copy of Virtual Turn Tables so u can practice with MP3
and then u can take it from there . . .

Peace :)

I agree.....
I don't own any DJ equipment or vinyl but my friends do and here are some examples of costs if you want quality equipment
also I wouldn't recommend learning on craps cause one of two things can happen
1) you will pick it up and then once you get good decks it will be that much easier
or...
2) you will get frustrated and give up because its soooo much harder mixing on craps, therefore, you will buy new decks anyway so just go with the new ones to begin with...

estimated cost in Canadian Dollars

decks- $ 1500-1700
mixer $ 800-1200 or higher
neddles $ 200 for really good ones WELL WORTH it in terms of how much longer they will last ( I think 200 not sure )
dj table $100
vinyl $15 - 30 each and this becomes an addiction
good speakers $1000 or more cause you dont want to spin on crap sound
so there is a start
think about it carefully

ciao.......
