car dates
View this Thread in Original format

in america, when someone talks about a car they include the date, like: "hey i a have '64 mustang something"
and in movies the police always know and say the date when they radio someone, how do they know the date (plates maybe?) and is the date important?
DJ JEM
when you open the driver door. look down and you will see this metal plate .. every thing is writting on the plate . date vin number everything that relates to the car

yes dates are very important .. if you need to get a part then how are you going to order it with out knowing the date, if some one thinks your in a crime and says you have a 99 M3 when you really have an 97 M3 then the dates help you out.

Models get redesigned. The mustang 20 years ago didn't look anything like it does now. You usually know the date by looking at the car, and knowing that this specific model look a certain way during certain years only.

i think he means how do the police know. They type in the plates to their system and it gives them the registration information on the car.

The VIN number gives them the whole nine yards!

1969 Mustang Fastback

2003 Mustang Mach 1

perhaps he was talking about the forthcoming 2005 model which has design elements which are certainly borrowed from the 60's GT.

Agreed.

But its very obviously different from a 69' model, thus making dating important.

Like the concept Cobra much better.

this pony has more in common with the 69. beyond the styling, it was designed to be a race car... not a cruiser...
