Why do dj's mix other dj's?

I've been listening to electronic music avidly for a couple years now...but there is few fan's in my area so when I have questions the internet is the only place I can go to get answers...
And my question right now is this...
Why do dj's mix other dj's? What gives a dj the right to mix another dj's music? I hope you don't get me wrong, I don't hate it when a dj's song's are mixed. I know very well that sometimes a mixed song is much better than the original. And I do understand that dj's are so widespread apart and to promote one another and lesser known dj's you have to mix their music...at least that's one theory I have.
But honestly...why do they mix music? Why don't dj's make all their music from scratch :?:

also you need to realise that there is a difference between a PRODUCER and a DJ
a Producer is the one that makes the songs. a dj is the one that plays them in a club or where ever. today the rolls are becoming more and more blurry as most successful dj's also produce original material, but there are many that are only producers and many that are only djs |

I think a lot of producers do remixes so they can fit certain tunes into their dj sets. And sometimes producers might invite other dj/producers to remix one of their tracks for them.
It just gives another produces interpretation of the tune, possibly to make more money off old tunes as well. |

Just curious, something I've been wondering for a while..
Let's say Corsten does a remix of a choon. who's got the copyrights? the producer, or the remixer? |

| for ex. tiesto did his well known remix of paul oakenfold's southern sun, which is a good song in itself, but is breakbeat, whereas tiesto's has that constant beat for about the whole song, which makes it mix easier with other songs in his set, IMO at least.. |

one of the main reason tracks are being remixed is that the label is intrested in widespread appeal for every vinyl they release,
so lets ssuppose label x signs a hardtrance track,
if that label wishes more people to buy it, it will most likely comission a remix, probably from someone who is known to produce uplifting trance (just an example).
another reason labels comission remixes is:
the original track they signed is from an unknown producer, and allthough the track is great, in order to grasp more attention, they book some bigshot name to do a remix.

i know that Markus Schulz often remixes/touches up tracks that he likes so he can fit them into his shows
i think its an honour for a producer when their track is remixed, at last count i saw 15 mixes of Oceanlab - Satellite, it just shows what a big track it was, and that various DJ's wanted to create their own remix to fit in with their style be it trance/progressive or a more housey feel :) |

agreed, good shout :)
i think you could use Aven - All i Want as an example, Ferry Corsten remixed this. had he not remixed it, i would never had noticed it. Immediatley caught my eye once i saw Ferrys name on it ! |

yes but bear in mind there was the satelite remix competition which probably spawned ten of those mixes ;) |
