I miss the days when every last one of us were emotional/uplifting whores, wtf is this calling chicane cheese then recomending Ian van dahl and NYC underground party and throwing out the c word just because someone asks for powerful and emotional.

Try:
Pulser - cloudwalking
Salt Tank - eugina 2000(Progressive summer)
original is brilliant as well
Jam and Spoon - Stella (OLD! and excelent)
Underworld - rez(repetitive, but it will grow on you if you let it, and I advise you do, because it is soooo good once you learn to appreciate it, it will envoke emotions if you let it take you)
BT - flaming june(you might like the other stuff as well, like "Shame" or "Satelite" and a few more, although it is a bit less trancy)
Robert Miles - children(how on earth did nobody mention that one already, geez)
Art of Trance - Breathe(the rest of theirs is awesome as well)

My personal fav's which could fit into that category:
BT - orbitus Terranium
Dave Forbes - Questions must be asked

still havent even screthed the surface of what trance has to offer, Im sure you can find more amazing music than you know what to do with.

Lets not get into a debate on whats cheese and whats not:toothless
Come on we all kno all nOObs should start of with "Da Cheese"From there noobs going in to an Enlightment stage and find better trance.

Paul Oakenfold-Hopnotised(Deepsky radio reaktor)
Markus Schulz-You wont see me cry(Deepskys Desert fairwell mix) ing OWnAge:nervous: :eyespop: :eyespop: :eyespop: (very emotional track)
Bt and PauL Van Dyk feat Jan Johnston-Sunblind(original mix)

bleh, many a TA here started off with the good stuff while they were in newbiehood.

Many times cheese vocals turn newbies off and make them dislike trance, such is the case when exposing lots of people to Lost Tribe - Gamemaster for example, brilliant tune, vocals, if you play it in front of anyone who isn't a total addict they will think you are retarded.

newbies should get a variety of songs covering as much of the entire spectrum of trance as possible, so that they can decide what they like and go searching from there.

I suggest getting a compilation cd, most of them are the same, so I'd suggest getting a really big one with several discs in it. If your enjoying the cheese suggestions so far, then you wanna look at the stuff ministry of sound has to offer. "Trance Nation"s that have ferry corsten's name on them are pretty nice.

I suggest the ID-T "trance files" comps because they are huge(as in your are buying a lot of music) although they tend to represent more of the Dutch side of things.

Also, listen to http://DI.FM stations, they play all kinds of trance and you will be able to pick out the stuff you like, if you ask the people there nicely they might even tell you where to find it if you wanna hear it again.

Thank you Zombie0915!

There's that line again... hey, sometimes, do you feel like copying and pasting your answers to those omnipervasive REDUNDANT questions? I semi-jest, of course.

But I WHOLEHEARTEDLY stand with your views, I could not put it better than "SPECTRUM OF TRANCE". And even beyond trance, you never know what you'll like. Hey, you know what they say: only the strong -- or at least the stubborn -- survive, so I'm not concerned about scaring people off from trance. As long as you believe in what you listen in and don't come off as ashamed when a newbie (and I mean that in the best of ways) comes by and asks you for trance advice.

Like they say: BEFORE YOU WALK YOU MUST LEARN TO CRAWL.

I also nod sites like DI.FM... hey Zombie0915, are you over on their Forums too?

And for a quick-and-dirty checkout, go to a nice online shop:

http://www.juno.co.uk

Who have plenty of samples of the latest releases, and then some. Sometimes you'll be curious how a track sounds here, and you can search for it there and hear the actual music. Pretty spiffy.

MOS has some of those "history of" (named differently, I forget ATM sorry) CDs where they recap the biggest trance hits of the last few years. I like those myself to bring even me up to speed, because there's plenty to learn and enjoy.

Emotion in trance is often tied to powerful melodies and lush, ambient pads. Chicane, whether you consider him cheese or not (can I cast an ambiguous vote? I like my fair share of so-called "cheese" after all the psychological wankery & tomfoolery is done with), is a stalwart of this technique. And of course, many of the big names like van Dyk, Tiesto & Corsten (who I hear are forming a law firm with van Buren) use these techniques, as well as my personal favorite, BT.

BT - ESCM

If music was meant to be emotional, that's it. I know, it sounds like hyperbole, and maybe it is. But I think you'll get a kick out of it, and then some. Cried myself during the breakdown to "Lullaby for Gaia" many a time myself, LOL :D

Im on the DI forums as Zombie0915, but I don't post there very often. I will drop in every now and then though. There are so many forums around that I only have enough time to post with any sort of regularity in a couple of them, or else I would just be a noob everywhere.

I sure would like to know if the person asking for suggestions is still around reading them, I think I'll hold off on posting more until I know they are being appreciated!(hint hint)

I think alot of people that come here asking for stuff just dissapear and never take advantage of all the things we offer to them, its sad really.

I think tweek thinks chicane is cheese cause he hasn't heard his pervious 2 albums. Go have a listen to those two albums, then come back here and say sorry

album one

album two

:D ;) :D

I recommend those 2 albums to the thread starter too. "Far from the maddening crowds" has a more melodic feel to it, I think you'll like that one

You know, you're right about that, Zombie0915. Sometimes you give the best advice with the best intentions, all well-thought out and from the heart & mind, and feel it has just been glossed over by a quick scroll wheel... sometimes by the person who ASKED for that advice in the first place *sighs*

You have a very good point about that, and I'm tired of being REDUNDANT myself, but there's got to be a better way so I can't just whine. WikiFAQ for TA for some of the factual questions? I dunno, but "USE THE SEARCH BUTTON" sure does come up a lot.

I'd like to think we make a positive difference, even if some people never come back again!! :D

Azz3D: Easy To Assemble was far from my favorite. I do, however, enjoy Chicane's notable singles, especially the inspirational tune called "Don't Give Up" :)

Exactly, that's what I was thinking too. Easy to assemble was disappointing, and one could assume chicane to be cheesy if they haven't heard his previous 2 works...

cheers
