So I just off the decks (because I got to ing hot dancin).. I just finished my first REAL attempt at a megamix... Using all Trance however... so maybe its not REAL.. but anyways.. I/it ing ROCKED!!:D  Obviously beatmatching isn't quite as neccessary to be spot on, but even that was good enuf for long transistions..
Anyways, just curious to find out if any you guys attempted megamixing...
PS: I forgot to record it.. :whip: |

| I guess that makes sense. I'll have to give that a shot some time. |

I haven't ever really tried it (in real-time) for a couple of reasons. I don't really have enough vinyl, and I think I would want a third turntable and a CDJ or two before trying it.
That said, I experimented with megamixing a bit for the intros of some of the digital mixes that I used to do before buying decks, some of them turned out pretty decently. |

| well.. i actually started trying it cuz i listened to some pvd sets and i counted him spinning through 8 tracks in about 24 minutes or so. but yea, i've been able to mix about 12-14 tracks in an hour now so i'm getting beter! |

As said, house and techno DJs do it all the time.
It doesn't always work with trance though due to the structure of the music. Because trance has breakdowns you have to be aware that you don't hit people with break down after break down or you will kill them with boredom.
It is a good skill to practice though as you will need to mix real fast in some situations.

| I have a set of Luke's where he plays 18 tracks in 30 minutes. It's pretty funny but also well impressive. |

Yea.. I wasn't playing the breakdowns very often.. Usually play the high point of the track and right before it breaksdown, drop the high point of the incoming track and cut the original out... SHORT transistions, and short segments of the track are usually what makes a 'megamix'... the hardest part I found was trying to find the next track that was up-beat enuf so when you transistion (even tho its not much of a transistion, 5-10 seconds) the new track doesn't take any energy away from the original song..
Defineately helps with fast beatmatching.. Like Nem said. |
