look at your owners manual (if you have one) it details when and what type of service should be performed, for oil changes usually every 3000/3500 or 3 months wichever comes first...

Conventional oil-3000miles.
Synthetic oil-up to 5000miles, but once you go synthetic you could never go back to regular/conventional oil.

Depends on the car, some car companies want you to use synthetic but I personally view it as a waste if you have the choice. Every 2-3K miles is good enough imo.

I saw a news report on a woman who's Toyota was about to hit 1 million KM (A Toyota Dealer traded a new car with her so they could display it in their showroom). She said she changed her 0il every 5,000 km.

it should be 3k miles but you can go over a bit and it's still cool.

btw how long is your commute? my roommate drives back and forth between LA and SB like 3-4 times a week which is about 120 miles each way and he gets an oil change everymonth.

tbh, look at the manual, then do 2/3 of the way to that. So if it says 3000km, do it at 2000km.

thanks everyone for the replies
I'll change every 2700miles

Every 4-5,000 miles is good enough, particularly when the vehicle is not high mileage. Don't listen to the old adage about every 3K. What's better for the car is putting in Slick 50 or the equivalent every other oil change if you do it yourself. It builds up a protective coating which will make the engine last longer and start up easily in cold weather. Greased Lightning (Slick 50 equivalent) for instance costs about $10 at K-Mart. Every other oil change adding it will cost you $10 plus say four quarts of regular oil at $1 plus a $3 oil filter for total cost of $17. But remember this is every other time, so the normal is five quarts at $1 plus a $3 oil filter for $8. Average is about $12.50 if you do it yourself. If you do it yourself, you should also lube the car (very few lube joints at all these days) and check air filter, trans fluid level, etc. If you are not a do-it-yourselfer, then pay $30 for a quick lube place to do it. You can also go in between and just do the oil every other time and pay the $30 the other times.

newer engines need oil changes less frequently. for example VW recommends 5K as a standard which is probably fine, even thou8gh jiffy lube recommends 3K... for the hybrid or turbo diesel engines it is even more infreqent at 10K or more...
