No Breakdowns?

Hi guys,
I have been to quite a lot of gigs in singapore which djs like Tiesto, PVD, Paul Oakenfold spinned, and also listened to alot of other international gigs.
What i find strange is that, there are almost no breakdowns in their mixing. Perhaps maybe 1 out of 20 tracks they play in the night has a breakdown.
Most of the tracks nowadays, perhaps 8 out of 10 or maybe even 9 out of 10 have breakdowns and buildups which are mostly damn irritating. Some are ok, but generally they do suck. They all usually happen in the 4th min mark or so right about the time when i mix in and cut off the outgoing track. This makes the crowd just wait for it to build up then dance again. The meat of the tunes are the best part but they generally come in after the breakdown/buildup. If i were to mix in right at the beginning of the track, quickly kill the outgoing track one minute later, it still does not give that much of an energy as much as after the buildups or climax that tracks nowadays generally have.
I get the feeling that perhaps the versions of the track being played are special edited version. They cut off the breakdowns but keep only the buildups or climax.
Is there some sort of mistake that i am doing or am i right in what i say?

yea tell me about it... so what do you think those djs do? ... edit the tracks they own and cut off those breakdowns? |

no
they just know their tunes, they have tunes that dont have breakdowns or minimal ones
They might be edits- who knows. i doubt it tho |

It's called chosing different cue spots!!!
Maybe they want to use particular song parts and use buildups and breakdowns from other songs instead?!
THis is easily done on vinyl, but you gotta know your records well.
Many big-name DJs also do re-edits of tracks so that their whole set is custom to their styles and likes. |

why wouldn't people want a breakdown? i can understand maybe once in a while, but isn't that part of the progress of a song? build up with layers, break it down, start building it up again....doesnt that contribute so much to what place a song will take you.
seems like if you dont like build-ups and break downs then maybe you should listen to techno? |

why techno?
techno music has breakdowns in it as well, not so airy fairy as the above mentioned producersbut they are there!
i prefer shorter/minimal breakdowns when im out clubbing as i prefer there to be more energy too but i have heard breakdowns which i love, Altitude - Altitude (SHOKK Mix) being a prime example, harder trance but not techno
its all about the mixing if you dont want to lose energy then think about the cue points as above! |

ya i like breakdowns and buildups but of course if its always the same constant downs and ups it will get boring. thats where the DJ should know how to keep things interesting.
i saw deep dish play and one of the tracks had such a long breakdown maybe 1-2mins (which felt like a long time in the club) but when it all came back everyone in the club went crazy and it was all worth it :toothless |

well, looks like a lot of us feel the same way.
which brings me to another question? .... what would be the best software to re-edit and remove those breakdowns in mp3s? |
