I'm looking to book my hotel room in the next few days. What part of town would be ideal? I've been looking at downtown and the airport area. Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance

Anywhere downtown in a decent area is going to be a bit expensive...

The PRIME hotel will probably be like the Hyatt Regency San Francisco which is along the embarcadero. Other prime areas will be like the Marriot Courtyard San Francisco Downtown on 2nd stret (right next door to my work, actually) or maybe the main San Francisco Marriott on 4th Street near the Metreon.

The Marriot Courtyard SF is just four blocks from SBC Park (where the San Francisco Giants play), where the afterparty is apparently happening...it's gonna be massive!!!

Its probably better to not stay near the airport becuase its boring down there, and its also far away from the place you want to be.

How far away is San Jose and Oakland from San Fran? It's much cheaper to fly into San Jose and Oakland.

Thanks in advance

San Jose is about an hour south with good traffic.

Oakland is right across the Bay Bridge. If you take the BART Shuttle (called AirBART) to BART (subway system) and ride on BART into SF, it's about 45 minutes riding time just because it's a subway -- this does not include waiting time (which varies greatly by the time of day). If you drive, it's something around 17 miles or something from the airport to SF. With good traffic, about 25 minute drive, probably less. With bad traffic, good luck. :-p

I would recommend taking AirBART (cost $2) to BART, then taking BART ($3.15 into the downtown area) into the city. You don't want to deal with any possible traffic on the bridge, trust me!!

I live in San Francisco, but do usually fly in and out of Oakland when I go to some places simply because it is cheaper...even when it's the same airlines. :(
