| quote: | GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. — Colorado Republican Senate hopeful Pete Coors yesterday criticized the legal drinking age, chiding the federal government for coercing states into raising the age limit from 18 to 21.
"We got along fine for years with the 18-year-old drinking age," the former CEO of the Coors Brewing Co. told an audience of about 200 people at a candidates' debate here. "We're criminalizing our young people." |
huh? A Republican that I agree with?
:nervous:
I know we've gone through this, but having an industry figure and political candidate to come out now and say "let’s lower the drinking age" is a step in the right direction. The 21 drinking age in the U.S. is merely counter-productive and creates an unnecessary allure for adults between the ages of 18-20. |

| Personally I don't foresee it happening any time soon. The fact of the matter is is that no one 21 or over really cares about the issue. They either don't care or even would rather the age remain at 21 in order to limit interaction with high schoolers or annoying underclassmen. Heh as a matter of fact it makes perfect sense that a republican or a businessman would want the age lowered :). |

the gov't actually thinks -21 are going to follow such a irrational law!!
your right, ive been drunk several times at 17. maybe if it was 16 like germany, it wouldnt be that way, the allure that its illegal makes it more inticing. |

You guys equate Republicans with Baptists far too often around here. Most "fundies" may be Republican, but most Republicans are not fundies. The free-market/libertarian wing wins out on a lot of issues too, and even Republicans who are members of dry religions have been known to favor less strict government control on the "sin products."
Let's not forget that MADD and the tobacco nazis pull the strings of the Democrats, not the Republicans. |
