well, several of her songs could qualify as "EDM" :toothless

A proper review will come later, lol...I know that quite a few TAs went (or are going) to one of the shows too...don't make me find the thread...let's have some reviews from the rest of you too :D
Skipper
I went Monday night - copying and pasting my review from tribe:

I went to Monday nights show and from what I've heard, she was a lot more energetic and animated than on Sunday.

I can't remember at what point she did this, but she said "Toronto, I didn't sleep last night, but you guys gave me so much energy! and I was able to make it through tonight's show."

"and another thing...*laughs*...YOU DONT HAVE TO CALL ME ESTHER!"

and everyone cheered.

Did she throw away her Kabbahlists (sp) do it better shirt on Sunday?

I liked hearing the classics, like Holiday, Vogue, Express Yourself, get into the groove, etc but my favorite had to be Music. Come on, there was a scratch DJ! The whole song was performed really intensely, and people knew it was coming to an end, so the entire place was just rockin.

I also really liked deeper and deeper. I've always loved that song, and she did it so well.

but perhaps I have been evaluating only DJ sets for so long, but was there no flow to the entire show? one minute there would be all of these disturbingly contorted images up on screen, and the next she'd be singing about going on a holiday.

9/10

oh - and I didn't take my camera. but I watched soooo many women go in without getting bags searched, and then it was my turn, and the guy singles me out and goes through my bag. weird.

a proper review...I went to the monday night show as well, section 107, pretty decent seats...left my camera at home too, thinking they'd crack down, although they didn't.

ticket price...bordering on obscene for a 2 hour concert...but this is Madonna...'nuff said. Well organized, no absurd lineups to get drinks or for washrooms, polite security and staff, room to dance (sort of), no crackheads (lol). Yep, there's no mistaking a concert at the ACC for a night at Guv :D

The Beast Within opening sequence was f**king incredible. The choppy imagery on the screens (using material from a Steven Klein photo exhibit, according to her fan of all fans who went with me) was absolutely stunning...and freaky as hell. It was brilliant...great beginning!

highlights:
- first song, Vogue...consistently one of her best performances during her tours, IMHO.

- the pseudo-break dancer (her lead dancer?) was amazing.

- the scottish band sequence, pipers, drummers, etc. was great...Madonna and a piper on a conveyer belt, mirroring each others moves and it slides along...lol, it was awesome...I bet it took him more than a few tries to get that routine down :D

- plenty of Bush bashing, implied at times, pretty direct at others, particularly with her cover of John Lennon's Imagine...great imagery during that performance. I'm not sure how I feel about anyone covering songs that truly define the term *classic*, but it was very well done.

- Frozen, Like a Prayer, Nothing Fails, Don't Tell Me, Express Yourself and Holiday (who the hell can't be happy when they hear that song? I think it's my pop music equivalent of AVB's remix of Seven Cities, lol)

non-highlights:
the Dick Tracy soundtrack song...Hanky Panky...weak and out of place in comparison to her other songs, IMHO. With SO much good material that can't possibly be included in a single show, that song could easily have been substituted for something else.

I agree with Sarah...and true, maybe it is a critique more suitable to DJ sets, but the flow wasn't really there sometimes in terms of the order of songs.

The opening and closing sequences were just *so* well done, that the middle seemed to be missing something at times, although our section was pretty subdued, to say the least. A friend who went sunday night and was in the 18th row, centre stage, said the entire area was insane for the whole show, dancing, screaming, etc.

I'm really glad I went...being old enough to distinctly remember the release of Madonna's trend setting Lucky Star video, I HAD to see her live at least once :)

I went to Madonna on Monday, section 106, 4th row.
I'm not a huge Madonna fan, but i'd have to say it's the best concert i've ever been to in my life!

The crowd gave off a vibe that was crazy!
So much emotions everywhere and I high that I never felt before!

It was defenitly worth the money!
tatgirl
So, was she lipsyncing? Watched a couple seconds on the news the other day and the vocals seemed 'too perfect'....
Skipper
Nope, no lip sync-ing. Her voice was impressive - moreso than I had expected.

Let them try to arrest me for that!

Here are some visitor's tour reports from the last night in Toronto.
It certainly sounds like the fans loved Madonna and Madonna loved Toronto!
To read these reports in full and loads more reports from the first and second night's in Toronto visit the fan reviews section:

From Nadine:
All I can say is WOW! I've been to all three shows here in Toronto and the crowds keep getting better and better. She kept commenting on how much she loved the City and the fans. She said something like, 'If I knew I would be having so much fun in Toronto I would have stayed longer.' She also brought up the police issue during the Blonde Ambition tour once again saying something like 'Let them try to arrest me this time!'

From Dan:
'If I would have known Toronto would be this much fun, I would have stayed for months!' Madonna told the audience. Thank God she didn't, she would have drained my bank account.
My second TO concert and by far, the best! Madonna was hilarious tonight. Her mouth was at its most foul. 'Are you mother f*ckers ready?' she asked and at one point said 'oh ' when forgetting a line.

From Andre:
She made me laugh so much when she spoke to the Toronto crowd and said 'she wanted to stay at the Air Canada Centre all night long and sing her full discography of songs.' She said 'my music director is going to kill me if I don’t shut up and start singing'. She was AMAZING.

From Soloman:
She completely screwed up the lines to the American Life reprise after Papa Don't Preach! It was hilarious. She couldn't stop laughing at something (Stuart Price was making faces at her), and she was being really, really playful with the audience!
It went something like this (and she's laughing the entire time): 'STOP CALLING ME ESTHER! Now let me continue. [Singing] DO I HAVE TO CHANGE MY NAME? Whoops, already did that! AM I GONNA BE A STAR? Been there, done that! SHOULD I LOSE SOME WEIGHT? [pinching her stomach a bit, the audience screaming 'No!'] AM I GONNA....! Hahahaha, this is very unprofessional behaviour! Now let me see, now I remember....' [proceeds to sing the verse correctly again.]

From Rochelle:
You can tell how much effort went into the production of the show and the musical director & Mrs. Ritchie deserve major props for the play list!

From GRKGODDES777:
The 'Italians Do It Better' shirt made its appearance last night, and some lucky guy on the left floor (I'd say about 12-13 rows in) snagged it. Lucky bastard!

From Anthony:
She told us 'It's been way too long Toronto! If I knew I was going to have this much fun in Toronto, I would have stayed a month.' She also told us 'I don't want this night to end. I'm having such a good time with you Toronto. Why don't we sleep together all night. Why don't we protest and just camp out here all night'. The crowd roarrrrrrrred like a colliseum full of lions. She later added 'Let them try to arrest me for that!'
During Material Girl, she was singing the wrong words and started laughing hysterically and said 'I can't remember the ing words'.

Madonna visits Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital
Posted: 21 July 2004 - Thanks to John S. (of Toronto)
Toronto radio station Mix 99.9 has reported that yesterday July 20, Madonna spent the majority of the day at Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital reading and visiting with the children and their families.
Mix 99.9 also reported that she had read her three released childrens books 'The English Roses', 'Mr. Peabody's Apples' and her latest book 'Yakov and The Seven Thieves'.

NOTE: We have just received a report in from a Carlo a hospital staff worker who contradicts the Mix 99.9 radio report:
I work at the Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto and would like to clarify news of a Madonna appearance. It actually happened today (21st) and it was Lourdes with an entourage and not the Queen herself. I got the chance to see her and say hi - she is gorgeous just like her mom! She read from the two books and gave out over 100 books - she was also presented with a gift from the hospital.

Whoops-a-daisy!
Posted: 21 July 2004
madonnalicious fan reviews from Monday's show in Toronto mentioned that Madonna tripped and fell as she climbed up the catwalk during Holiday, her final number of the show. Fans reported that she stayed down for a few seconds and then laughed it off saying Whoops-a-daisy.

madonnalicious visitor AngeM sent some us some pictures from that night and in one of the pictures she managed to take a picture just as Madonna fell:
