a kid i used to know back in the day used to receive tons of tapes (rock to hard core to alternative) weekly/monthly. i want to know if there is any way i could receive some electronica (house, trance, techno etc.) promos each week or month. my guess this is mostly for well known djs & producers only...but maybe there is someting. thanks all. ;]

well you can pay to be on a promo list. just pick out your favorite labels and see if they have a promo list.

The most promos are received but residenced DJ's. |

beign an american, you have slim chance unless your an international DJ, why? because there's not enough decent american edm labels. Almost all the UK labels only give promos to UK DJ's, holland the same, because they are promoting music that will be released in that country and obviously promoting it to an american public who will be unlikel yto buy a UK release is seen as a waste of time. as you mentioned though you cna buy your way on to some promo lists, but it comes at a hefty price as opposed to free :) just listen to asot and tatw and you get all the new tunes to listen to! :) obviously international DJ's are exempt from the above!

Yeah, in the states it is hard as to get good, free . I have a friend that somehow managed to get Motorcycle and Andain before their release, but he is also a pretty big local and around 1200 on the DJ list. I can't get .

I get promo CDs, tho I do write for a website. Usually the CDR's are given to the friends of the deejay first, then the label does the same, gives it to their most liked deejays, then the big mags, then the websites, then full release. It's not much different, just you get it for free, ahead of time.
