I have major beef w/ about 98% of the doctors these days. ALL doctors. Orthopedics, Gynos, and ESPECIALLY shrinks... It’s the ing scam of the century if you ask me. They don’t give a rat’s ass about people’s health. They care about their friggin wallets and making the pharmaceutical companies and MRI companies money. That’s what it’s all about. Over booking patients, so there’s a 45 minute wait in a dull, boring, waiting room w/ a foggy glass window that is shut so you can’t even see the receptionist, with a big sign on it that says, "DO NOT KNOCK! WE SEE YOU". Gee thanks...real ing personable. Just what I like to see when I’m at the doctor’s office. I have zero respect for doctors nowadays. Anyone else experience bull like that? I went to the dermatologist today because I have been having a little bit of skin irritation/allergic reaction...I was in and out in 10 minutes w/ $40 worth of
prescriptions.
"so what brings you here"?
"well I’ve been having some sort of reaction".
"let me see..hmmm I’ll be right back".
"ok I’m back, here’s a prescription for this, this, and this...see you in two weeks"
bull.
same with shrinks
"well what brings you here"?
"I dunno, I’ve been feeling stressed lately".
"hmm, sounds like generalized anxiety disorder w/ depression...here’s some xanax and prozac". |

I guess I've only seen the 2% of doctors that you like?
Neither my mom or dad are like that... |

| im not a "pissy patient". i think i have a valid argument. when i take off of work to go to a doctor's appointment and i'm there 10 minutes early...and i have wait almost an hour, i'm sorry, but that is bull. it's either that, or you are in there for like 10 seconds and they send you on your way w/ all these pills n that you probably don't even need. |

i'm mainly referring to my gyno...nice guy, but over books and has a bitchy staff.
and the neuros and orthos...especially ones that are in the legal field and perform IME's and review of x-rays and stuff. they charge $100 for a damn phone conversation...and 300 an hour for medical records review, and $1000 for the IME...they just play along in court w/ their buddies (the attorneys)....
i was hospitalized back in march and i didn't really want to go to the hospital at first, so i tried my primary....showed up, doubled over in abdominal pain and they were like, "well can you come back in 2 hours? he's about to go to lunch". |

PMS
but seriously, i have always thought this. maybe it's just like that down here...it really is a big joke. they only care about how many patients are booked in a day so they can leave at 3 and go golfing. i know, because my boyfriend golfs with them and they joke about it. |

Well I think you are blame shifting here. hehe what a psychologist term...but it applies.
You ahve to think of who actually does the scheduling.....not the doctor. There is a lot more going on behind the scenes for doctors that no one pays attentino too.
SOme do research on the side. My dermotologist was researching new skin products. That stuff sucks to do and takes a lot of time...and it needs to be done. they need so mnay approvals from committees and blah blah blah....
plus insurance is outrageous for these damn doctors. They have to pay out the ass for it because they can guarentee that they will be sued a handful of times every year. Then there are lawyers and court dates....and payment matters with insurance....
There is a lot more than you notice, I have parents in the field and I get to see evreything that goes on. SO I am totally sympathetic. The bottom line is if youdon't like your doctor, go to another one.....There are plenty of good ones that try, and of course there are ty ones.
bah, I am starting to get used to this doctor bashing...I am just glad im on this side of the fence... :) |

I take it you're on an HMO? Why don't you switch your PCP around until you find a good doctor you like? Before you pick your pcp you need to do the research. Generally if your pcp is good, the people he will refer you to will be good as well. If you're on a PPO than you shouldn't have a gripe unless your in-network area only contains like 3 or 4 doctors. That would be a pretty crappy PPO though ...
Or you can do what I do and self-medicate with beer. Uh oh ... I think I'm coming down with something this weekend. |

no, aetna ppo...it pays great. so hush.
yea and malpractice insurance is high, so they hire these morons in their office (i have to deal w/ them on a daily basis) and pay them $5 an hour. and they overcharge you for everything....i get invoices all the time (i work at a law firm) for medical records...friggin $75. i call them up to see how many pages are in their chart...guess what? half the time it's like 20 pages. there's a florida stature that states what you're allowed to charge for medical records...they dont give a . they just throw out any number and try to rip you off. |

whoo, I sound like a dick.
I was trying to let ya know there are other doctors...you only deal with a marginal percentage of them. and I guess those dudes are giving me and professors everywhere a bad name. |
