| Ive been listening to Trance since 1992... and I am sick of the crap that people are calling Trance these days... So my goal is to try and write Trance the way it was orginally... removing the commercialism sound all together |

I make trance because there came a point when listening to music just wasn't enough anymore, and I had loads of ideas flying around my head, so I got myself a copy of Reason and started learning, hopefully one day I'll be good enough to put whatever ideas I've got straight into a real tune :)
It's just a hobby for me, and a relatively new one at that, but I hope to one day get good enough to be signed - not for the money or fame, just because I love music and I'd love to be able to share it with the world :) |

| The only reason is love...love of the music, mixing, mastering, rhythm and emotions it produces. |

| Ever been at a party or a club, and heard a song playing that just SMACKED you? That's why. I want to see (someday) something that I created move people in that way. |

well I think it's unanimous...we all want to make the people move...so guess what? let nothing stop us and LETS DO IT! never give up we can all do it. Just remember this...i always say this to myself to get me motivated...what makes me different from those guys that have hit records? nothing!!..they were just like me once. Music has to be produced byt somebody, so why can't I be one of the people to do it.
Now i've just shared a very personal thing with you so use it! Lets get on those chart toppers and start having some real fun. |

Just curious - why you chose to produce? For me - it was the only way to get all the crazy ideas out of my system onto CD. I don't ever hope to make money off it - it's just an expensive hobby/emotional outlet. How about you? Oh, and by the way - tell me honestly - you started to produce because you imagine yourself as - with a crowd of lusty chix (or guys, if you're a girl or whatnot) all looking at you. C'mon admit it - you're attention junkie.. C'mooooooooonnnnnnnn :D
 |
it was a logical step after fiddling for 5-6 years in protracker on an amiga and dj-ing. didn't experience the lusty chicks yet though, but i wouldn't mind for sure :D |

| a bit silly actually.. when i was 12/13 years of age, i was playing games like Screamer and Need for Speed, and i really loved the background music during the races and stuff.. i was listening carefully as well, trying to distinguish the different sounds and how everything was built up.. i thought it was very fascinating, and i wanted to try to create something like that myself.. a few months later i got a copy of Rebirth from my uncle, and i loved it immediately. i've been producing for 7 years now, and i'm still not sick of it.. there are so many possibilities. |

| Another thing I remembered... I've heard all the music that's either made me think 'what a great producer' or it's touched me or affected me somehow, I wanna do that to people as well... |

Well, since you've all been soooo open, I might as well confess myself. :)
I started with music at the tender age of 7. My dad thought it'd be pretty cool if I could play (drum roll please) an ... ACORDEON! :wtf:
He was pretty convinced that that was the instrument to play. (Well, cut me some slack - we lived in a former Soviet Union at the time, my choices were pretty limited. it was either that or balalaika (sorta like russian banjo shaped like a triangle)) :D
Anywho - needless to say, this was not what I had in mind - I actually rather hated it. I was too lazy to learn music theory and all my music theory classes were graded with a consistent, solid "F". However, at the time I realized that I didn't have to know the notes, if I could only hear the piece once. So, I played all my pieces (which were pretty complex as time progressed) by ear. My music teacher was completely oblivious to the fact that I didn't know the difference between "A" or "E" key. As a matter of fact, all my "performance" (exam where you play for other teachers and they grade you) - were consistent "A's" or "A-". Well, about 4 years into it my teacher found out I didn't know a single note and nearly had a heart attack. He told my dad, my dad asked me why I didn't know - I told him I hated it. He gave me an option to drop out, which I did.
In retrospect, that was stupid. Well, anywho, we migrated to US and I picked up guitar shortly thereafter. I started with classic rock but since I didn't know how to read notes, once again, I was relegated to playing by ear. Pretty soon, I was running out of chords and didn't feel like learning. So, I dropped that too.
My buddy at the time was an accomplished piano player, who actually won a competition to play with Philly orchestra as a lead piano player. After visiting his place and seeing several synths - I got hooked. Needless to say, I got my first Cassio $100 board - but I could compose my stupid little cheesy pieces on it, while playing with only one finger of my left hand. My right hand was actually pretty good, since I've been playing accordeon for some time.
Well, next thing I know I got a computer and the synth went away. There I was - in a lull for about 7 years or so, ocassionaly playing my guitar. By that time I got hooked on trance/eurodance. Every time I was in the car listening to awesome tune, I was playing the "air piano". That drove my gf at the time insane - she said "if you want to play so much, why not get a keyboard?".
Well, for me financially it was not an option at the time. Reason didn't exist then and I had 0 idea about producing. But I did know that I wanted to make people dance (I had a short lived gig throwing weekend parties and being a DJ for about 2 years when I was 16-18). I loved the feeling when people danced. That feeling drove me later to re-create the emotion. So, when I saw PvD for the first time I thought - hey, why not DJ.
So, I started on the most difficult route - instead of learning to DJ I wanted to learn how to make the actual music. And then it started.
I got my first synth - XP60 and totally got hooked.
It's been 3 years and my little hobby turned into a gigantic money pit. I'm no closer to getting the people to move but I'm at least enjoying those few hours of dreaming of that.
It's been a long and tough journey but at the end of the day I'm happy and I do cherish a hope that one day someone will actually stand up and dance when my tune is played. Even if it's one person, totally wacked out of his scull - I'd still be happy. :)
Either way - keep it going peeps. Odds are, if you're persistent, consistent, and head-set on a goal - you'll reach it.
Good luck to ya all, hope all of you realize your dreams.
=)
Insanely yours,
DJ CynepMeH :stongue: |
