Having ideas stolen : reality or fantasy ?

I've heard any number of people mention this idea, and I've thought it too.

On one hand, isn't any type of exposure good ? Shouldn't you be putting your tracks everywhere ? All over the web ?

But then again, if you're a struggling wannabe producer, what's the chance of having your ideas stolen, or at "heavily inspire" someone else ? Is the temptation then only to show your tracks to labels to reduce the risk of idea transferrance ?

Really, if you produce a great track, then chances are that any copy is going to be inferior - right ?

Who posts their tracks / makes them readily available and why ? If you don't, why not ?

There's always a chance of someone copying you or stealing your work. I.e downloading mp3's are just that.

But spesific about stealing a tune you've put you on the web:

Very sad for the producer and pr-people, but a good read.

my music teacher once said: "Borrowing ideas from other musicians is fine so long as they are good ones."

it's been done since the world's 2nd composer did his first song.. I wouldn't worry about so long as it's not a blatent copy..

So you guys freely post your own tracks on the web with no fear ?

Do you really think someone would bother stealing ideas from a bunch of amateurs?

Yes, that does sound harsh but it's the truth. People are far too paranoid about everything these days, when it's quite rare for tracks to get stolen. Besides, there are always ways to make sure you can prove the ideas were originally yours if worse comes to worst.

Well, that was part of the exploration in this thread. Glad for your opinion.

At the point where you did not yet reach that "pro" stage, you have nothing to fear of.
;)
