Anything interesting in Providence?

| I'll be in Providence on Wednesday. I was wondering what are cool neighborhoods, places to visit, and events going on. |

providence has tons of restaurants -- if you walk around the downtown area you should run into a whole bunch (they range in price from dirt cheap (Red Fez) to really expensive (Al Forno)) so grabbing a bite shouldn't be a problem. You can drive or catch the trolley (5 minutes away) to Federal Hill, a historically Italian neighborhood with decent italian food and some pleasant outdoor cafes.
if you want to get your drink on, there also many bars and some lounges. Trinity Brewhouse (downtown)is a decent bar that brews its own stuff; z-bar on wickenden is also ok. Viva @ Paragon and Kartabar are decent, if slightly pretentious, lounges on Thayer St. Being a college town, providence has no shortage of places to to drink. This summer a surprising amount of students have stayed in providence rather than going home, so beware of any annoying frat-type scenes.
there are some dance clubs downtown, but if you're used to clubbing in ny you'll find them subpar and not worth a visit
If you want to shop, you can check out the Providence Place Mall, Wickenden St. or Thayer St. which is right by the campuses of Brown and RISD (it's providence's version of bleeker st. and 34th St. rolled into one and condensed into a few blocks).
If you want to catch a movie, the mall has a stadium seating multiplex with mainstream flicks; Avon on Thayer shows indy flicks; and Cable Car cinemas has lounge chairs and couches you can sit on while viewing your movie.
there may also be waterfire going on, but im not sure if they're going to have it this wedmesday (they light bonfires along the rivers that run through downtown providence and it's kinda nice).
