Intelligence, knowledge and wisdom come from years of keeping the mind sharp and active, as well as tons of experience with real life. Just because you dont understand something, doesnt mean you cant learn it. Dont get depressed, there are tons of conversations that I would love to be involved in, but if I dont know what their talking about, I go out of my way to learn, then the next time, you can show off your knowledge of a certain subject by participating and adding to the convo' itself. I will never be the smartest guy in class, I will never win any awards, but when I speak, I try to make sure I know what im talking about and that alone gives a sense of respect from others and for yourself.

Pity is an excuse for the weak.

I told you..... I am learning it. -But what I am saying is, its going to take quite some time to catch up. and as for politics or parliament or whatever its called I dont think i'll ever understand that stuff.

another thing that I should have mentioned is that I seem to forget words that i have looked up.

examples:

candidate
delegated
committee
propagate
construe
periodic
sublime

etc....

see what I mean :(

Let me tell you a story about a man..

Growing up in the rough streets, this man lived a live of crime and destruction, he ended up spending a long portion of his life in jail and had never even read a book until he was atleast in his mid-20's. But after realizing that he was illiterate and a burden to society, he improved himself, how? by reading the in dictionary, he taught himself new words and taught himself how to read, and how to write within a few years, he began to write about his life, and his religion, and his people, and his beliefs. He was freed and became one of the most important figures of American history. Especially African American.

His name was Malcolm Little, aka Malcolm X. So if this mother****** can do it, especially during a time when blacks were still being oppressed and racially discriminated heavily upon, you better damn well believe you can do that much more.

Its not how big our brains are, its how we use them that makes us smart. Trust me, dont put yourself down, you are most likely very smart, just think about it this way, if you play a sport long enough, what happens? you get better at it, its the same with learning, the more you practice, the easier and better it gets.

Quit school 2 months into 10th grade. Lets make this short....Only child.... father abandoned us.... left us with all the bills. Me and my mom were struggling so I had to try to help with the bills and do the honorable thing ;) Got a job then got into a GED program which was only for a few hours a day. Entered a program where you can work one week and go to school the alternate week. Helped me get some $$. Passed my GED test with flying colors and went on to work fulltime. Currently working in a position that requires a college degree although I dont have one. The accepted me based on the fact that I have so much experience due to the fact I was thrown in the "job world" very early in life. I now have my own place and a 4 year old and a great steady boyfriend. No matter what happens in the past, you can fix your mistakes if you truly desire to change your life ;)

I quit university after a couple of months coz of a ing girl (oh the naivety of youth :haha: ).

School is vastly overrated though mate, I know it's a cliche but (specialist subjects aside) you'll learn more about the world just working and living your life than you ever could in a classroom.

Don't get stressed about not being able to keep up with certain conversations, if you find it difficult to remember what you're looking up it's probably because you're not really interested in the subject.

By all means further your knowledge but learn about the stuff you have a passion for, and then it'll be your friends who're reaching for the dictionary in the evenings ;)

starting year 18 of school in 2 weeks....when will it end? ahhhhh
Mr.Mystery
Yeah, I quit. Not because I would had had any difficulties passing with good grades but because it just seemed like aimless drifting to me. I prefer the hands-on feel of working much more than sitting in a class learning about stuff I'm never going to need.

I might return to finish later on but right now that's not an option for me.

Hey, better late than never. How old are you? I graduated high school with a low C average. I was doing well when I lived over seas w/ my dad on a military base...I was involved in sports and student council, etc.. then I moved back to America my senior year and started hanging out w/ my old friends who got me into “e” and smoking weed every day, so my senior year sucked. My grades dropped bad and I didn’t apply to any colleges. I just partied for the next 2 years after I graduated and worked and lived w/ my mom still (and a boyfriend for a while) not really going anywhere. I don’t think I regret it though because obviously I wasn’t ready, and it would have been a waste of money. Now I’m going to college and working as an adult and I’m taking things more seriously...I really want to learn and be successful, I’m just a late bloomer. You will be too.

Just make yourself flash cards and read the dictionary every night if you want to expand your vocabulary. I catch myself wondering how to spell easy words sometimes too, so don’t sweat it. I think it’s because I smoked so much weed though. lol I know it sounds like a dumb excuse, but I used to be extremely sharp and very smart as a kid/teenager. I could remember hundreds of telephone numbers and stuff. Drugs sort of cloud your mind and memory, so if you do any, you should stop before you start your education.

Start reading the newspaper and watching sports center and CNN so you can hold a conversation about current events, and sports at least. That’s what most people talk about anyway:)

Good luck and keep your head up. you have to keep going at it or you’ll always be insecure about it. I'm assuming you’re still young, so quit worrying about that stuff. Also, try to find what you're really passionate about, and go for it. If it doesn't require a college education, then oh well, get work experience, but at least get your diploma or GED..that's crucial no matter where you go.

i can understand someone in eyesofextasy needing to drop out to pay bills or something, but why would you need to drop out? highschool isn't hard. all you have to do is show up and you can basically pass with some grade..

smallSHEEP
You can always go back and finish your schooling at a later date, perhaps part time. I've just finished my degree and it does sort of give you a smug feeling.
davinox
high school is ridiculously easy if you have these three necessicities:

1.) a shred of a work ethic.
2.) the ability to speak english tolerably well.
3.) the abscence of a severe learning disorder.
