for you english majors out there..what are some controversial issues to write about? I need to write one for my college english class and i do not know what to write about!!

| yes and no -- depending on how the sentence sounds, either way is acceptable |

In general, it should. While the usage of a serial or "Oxford" comma is not required for technical grammatical correctness, the general consensus among authorities on American English recommend its usage as a means to reduce the chance of ambiguity. However, in rare circumstances it can actually create ambiguity where none would exist if it weren't present. In these cases, it is best to omit the serial comma.
