I had Wavy Gravy screaming and when it finished my mum goes
"that could actually be classed as Jazz"
so anyway, after laughing for five minutes :stongue: I said "and whysat?"
then she continues with "because they're using syncopation"
of course I had to make the correction of: Its not "them" its "him"
and she says "well, he is using syncopation"
I then proceeded to explain to her that whether its syncopation or not, when it comes to electronic music people dont bother using terms like that, and its definitely not Jazz.
lol :toothless |

| Firstly, do you know what syncopation is? Secondly, it is them, not him. :p |

Some of Airdrawndagger does seem to... uh... draw from the Windham Hill category of easy listening/smooth jazz/new age/adult contemporary traditions. Especially the opening track, but throughout the album you get those ambient vibes. I mean those labels in no negative way, but some people's imploding psychology tends to make it so ;).
Refreshing. |

yeah its just the fact that she thought he actually was using sycopation. lol. it was just the placement of the kicks and snares.

| Yes, there is syncopation in Wavy Gravy. But that doesn't mean it's jazz. There's syncopation in almost all kinds of music. It's pretty common in breaks too. But Wavy Gravy would never be classified as "jazzy" because it lacks the funk or soul to make it as such. |

It's where a typical beat is broken up but still kept in time. There's a shift of a particular beat/s where pressured is applied and then released quicky within the passage.
Blah, don't think that makes sense.
I'm not good with words [ more of a mental person :wtf: ]
YaleTrance or aspergian can explain it better :) |
