A Case for a PPR / OT thread

It's a shame that NYTA regulations strictly prohibit threads in which our more liberal European counterparts are permitted:

Off-topic conversations are the lifeblood of any social community, helping greatly to promote fellowship.
One single off-topic thread could be maintained (and yes, even archived from time to time to reduce server space) much more easily than an entire forum filled with meaningless drivel and idle threads.
(Actual post-padding for the sake of increasing post count could be easily discouraged or eliminated if there were an active moderator patrolling the forum.)

i definitely think this would be a good compromise to both "sides" noted in daniela's thread. some people can still have their silly side conversations in here, as well as others get to create threads not centered around spam.
i'm not sure if we need "permission" to make a new PPR-like thread, or if we should just start one altogether. and i also agree that it shouldn't be used to up one's post count....hence, the necessity of an active moderator. |

i think having permission to start PPR threads should be permitted...that way we can keep the useless threadds to a minimum and prevent disagreements as we have been having all this week...and in this case, who cares about the post thread count...these types of conversations are meant to further friendships, which i am all FOR :D

| I don't think it will happen due to the fact that all the mods decided to wipe out all the ppr threads. If we start a new one....its just going to get locked. So I guess spam will continue to overflow in every other thread out. We need to do our best from letting that happen since this is a free for all. If somebody gets out of hand, school them about it in a nice, non bashing way and hopefully we can clean this place up. |

| The bored at work thread should suffice throughout the day and the night owl thread at night I guess. As long as people keep searching and bumping those with theyre comments instead of starting new threads. |

imo, it seems like we do have a few psuedo-PPR threads going already, which is totally cool with me because we had some damn good times in there way back when.
see, the main problem with the PPR was that after the thread got to be hundreds of pages long, it was locked and deleted because it took up so much space.
So, i say that we should be able to open a ppr, with the contingency that it will be deleted and a new one will be created every, say, 300 pages or so.
thoughts? of course, if this is an official plan and we don't have a mod, we gotta pass it by people like wickedneo (who i think closed the first one? can't remember) and swamper... we're serious about it this time! |
