Win98 install problems

I'm trying to install Win98 on my old linux machine and when I put the disk in, it gets to the Win98 setup menu, it formatted the HDD and said "Windows 98 is preparing to install" and then it said something like "Disk read error. Abort Retry Fail?". I checked the disk and it's scratch free. Could it be my cd-rom drive has gone belly up?
Also, when I tryed to go to the dos prompt it spat out a bunch of garbage about my command .com or something. I'm really confused about the whole thing...
Help? |

| Actually, it had no floppy drive at all. I've been using the win98 cd as the boot disk. |

| you have to low level the hard drive... just find out who makes it and then go to their webpage and locate the low level utility and you should be fine, run it and you should be fine. |

| When I reformatted my old computer running '98 I found I needed a boot disk with the drivers for my cd-rom on it. I wasn't getting the exact same errors though, so I don't know if you have a similar problem. |

in dos run FDISK delete all partitions. Afterwards create a primary partition. run the CD... you should be good to go.
Of course make sure you have dos bootable CD to do that. |
