But sometimes you have to get off your high horse and play what everyone else wants, not what you want. Me and Nuno had a long conversation about this all last night. If no one is on the dance floor enjoying you spin and if you aren't either, it doesn't matter how good you are. I'm not saying sell out to another genre, but most of the people that come to trance night are new to trance. Playing the deep underground so-far-from-trance-it's-probably-progressive type of stuff is really not the best idea.
The person we have to thank for this opportunity is Nuno. Our focus should be making him happy and his patrons happy. We wouldn't be there without them.
Like Lovelace said, you can spin new popular stuff without selling out your beliefs system. Trust me, it's possible! |

Last night there was hardly anyone dancing until some of the more vocal trance was being played. I think just get some of that new stuff coming in. I mean come on Delirium’s Silence is sooooo 2001. Its goodie, but an oldie. Rank 1 I can see, but maybe that’s because I am a die-hard Rank 1 fan (haha). Ian Van Dahl just came out with a new album and it’s freaking awesome (I just got the Can't let you Go single - US release with 10 remixes). Go abroad and find your music. You don't always have to be loyal to local record stores. Alot of the best stuff comes from the U.K. US releases generally suck. You all just have to find some initiative. Yeah you might not get want you really want to play, but what DJ has in their early careers? :) |
Hmmm geee where do I start. First off use paragraphs it makes things a lot easier to read mmmmmmkay. Good vocal tracks are not the only things that will get people on the dance floor. If the crowd is feeling the music and the vibe then they will dance regardless of what is being played. I mean for gods sake you guys have been to other clubs right. People dance if the music is good. If you havent noticed the people that frequent Nunos are a drinking crowd not a "club" crowd. Nunos still has that stupid bar/grill mentality and until they get passed that things wont change and the people who love the music won't come.
Oh and for gods sake this is TA we all know where to buy vinyl here and most of us do buy it abroad. We are not newbies who are new to the trance scene. We know where to find quality tracks. As for Ian van Dahl dont make me laugh. It is the cheesiest most commercial trash out there that gives trance a bad name here in the states. :thepirate |

Ok #1, who are you the grammar police? Stuff it. Of course Nuno's are till going to have patrons for the bar because they were a sports/bar establishment for years! Don't expect a quick transition. Things take time. But I understand that some here are not that, or that open minded.
Speaking of being open-minded alot of people like what you call "cheesy" and "gives trance a bad name". Ye will hit the dance floor when they hit that vibe. Alot of people are still new to the scene, mainstream helps them get into it, mix it up with a little underground. Whatever. For god's sake don't play that awful crap that DJ Sir Jackson plays, a few weeks ago he played house at trance night. If you get into stuff that is to heavy you might scare people away. Your always going to have some who will get into it, but the main idea here is to get a whole big group of people into it. Get more people coming. If someone where to a demographic study, they might find that alot more people recognize more mainstream stuff and trance that isn't underground. Nuno ‘s is trying to appeal to those people not just the friends of the dj, who were the majority of the people who came a few weeks ago I believe. Not just friends of the Djs.
Also, seeing other people get into it and dance can bring people onto the dance floor, not just hanging around the DJ booth... :-/
Also, I don't know that everybody who djs there is on trance addict, apparently they are. I was giving my opinion. So stuff it.

I'll agree with Joel about the mentality of the people. Keep in mind that Trance Nation is relatively new. Give the transition phase some time.
I don't really see a problem with the sets. Judging from the previous tracklists, it mixes both new trance (for those up to date with trance), with some classics (for those who are newbies to trance).
It's not that some of us are against playing stuff that's popular, but it's just that we think the stuff that's "popular" sucks. If something's good and it appeals to the masses, what's stopping any DJ from playing it? |

This isn't high school anymore. People can like what they want to like without being called cheese heads. I think we need to support ANY trance scene in austin and not get all picky about how popular something is and what sub genre is "real trance" and what sub genre is "cheese." It's this kind of attitude that kills the scene.
