Recording a session with FL Studio

Maybe someone can clear a few things up.
Basically what I'm doing is a live mix/PA
sort of thing with a track and want to record the mixdown (if I even have the terminology right).

I'm using a Tascam US-122 as my audio device. And I'm routing a Korg Micro through it (which FL is sending midi data to).

Basically, as a solution I'm trying to
use Cool Edit as a recording solution (using the line out into a line in) This is dumb (the mix recorded sounds terrible, the keyboard is way too loud, I know the level is too high).
I do have another onboard soundcard like a Realtek AC97. I can record the line out with the onboard card. Is this a good thing to do/a solution?

1)Can FL do this alone? Can it record a live mix?

2)I don't want to have to buy an external device for recording, but is this something I should invest in?

3)What is a good recording piece of software to use in this scenario. Cubase is a no go because I want the midi. Cooledit is okay. Slowly learning Cubase but jumping over is no small feat.

4)Should I dump the tracks to wavs and use Ableton Live or something of the ilk?

Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. this is off-topic...hows the micro-KORG ?

the Micro Korg is a very interesting piece of gear. Its a great starter synth. But its not a toy. There's enough there to find some interesting song/track ideas
and with Korg's software you can basically tweak every sound and save it to the synth, which is good because the interface to the actual synth blows. And to boot you
probably could use the vocoder (it sounds interesting, I don't know if I'd use it).
