I've got a mobile phone for sale on Ebay, and a person used the buy it now option.
In my terms and conditions i would only sell it inside the UK.
Here is the initial Email they sent to me
| quote: | NOTICE

BUT U CAN SHIP IT WITH UPS/FEDEX
Hello,
Compliment of the good season to you over there, . I saw your
item () and i will like to buy it for my son that will be doing her
birthday next week , so mail me now the amount you will be selling it

Immediately i was a bit suspicious as the seller is located in Singapore, wants to send it to Africa, and has atrocious spelling and grammar :thepirate Since when is a son a she? :stongue:
i email them this
| quote: | Hello Mavies,
I did state in my auction that i do not ship outside the UK.
I did a bit of research and found out that to post an package via UPS
Express Service to Nigeria would cost you an extra £50.47
I have sent you the invoice. I will not send any packages until i receive
the payment.
If the transaction does not go smoothly, i reserve the right to not sell the
item, as stated in my terms and conditions.
My name and Address should be in the invoice.
Regards,
Lam Duong

After all the crap thats happened, I dont trust Ebay anymore. :(
I would say try and sell it to someone else. Youre not going to lose anything in the process, itll just take a little longer. |

Yeah, sounds like a textbook eBay scam too me.
I got a "TKO NOTICE" from eBay the other day. Well it wasn't eBay.
This whole e-mail message about how my account had been "compromised" and eBay needed my account information to verify that my account wasn't compromised.
So in the e-mail there was this link and it was like (for example)
http://signin.ebay.com/aw.cgi?loginVerifyAccount
Just something that looked normal
But when I clicked the link, it had like an IP address in the URL. I was like WTF?
So on the login page, I typed "youhacker" and "bannanas" as my password.
Lo and behold, it logged me in.
They wanted alot of too, routing numbers, bank account numbers, credit card information, PIN number, the security code on my credit card, it was teh nutzors.
Good thing I can spot like that, average eBayer probably would have been scammed. |

| Clearly some loser trying it on. It's probably best to ignore them, and relist the item. It might be difficult to get eBay to cancel the final value fee for the item though. |

| if they give u any (ebay) just tell them to deal with scammers and then they'd not have to follow up genuine sellers who get ed over by them |

Hmmm,
I say assume he's honest till more evidence comes in to suggest otherwise.
All he's done is ask for your address. Not your bank account number or anything. What can he do with your address? Its not like he replied to your ebay ad in order to stalk you!
He wants to use western union to pay you. Its not like he wants to send you a personal check or something. So if he does send you money through western union you will know immediately if you've been paid or not.
As for the not shipping outside of UK. I personally have made that error before. There's a lot of info in an ebay ad, and its not unheard of to just assume the person ships worldwide.
Anyway, I suggest you proceed (with caution) but from here it looks like if a "scam" develops in the future I can't see how he can get at your money or your phone. |

this is what i don't get.
you don't wanne send the stuff, because you want the money first.
but what about the buyer? he send you money but you don't send him the package..this is why i don't understand how ebay works. |

Its based on the trust system and the comfort that you know Ebay will take care of the fraud should one happen. I like selling things on Amazon much more though - its safer, Ive found. |

I find it odd they would want a phone that originated in the UK to be sent to Africa for use. If you do decide to sell the phone to someone outside of the UK tell the bidder that you will send the phone to them after you receive their payment. That is normal practice and nothing else should be expected. It's up to you whether to send your address to them. Tell them that you will send the phone directly to them and that you will let them handle sending the phone to their child with the identity crisis.
BTW...what is their eBay feedback rating? |

since i'm african , i'm gonna ask you NOT TO DEAL with the guy.
wanna know why ? first of all he must be stupid to buy something online then get it shipped by mail , because in africa the mail system is horrible and except for letters , good luck if you wanna receive an item (it gets stolen almost all the time). |

I had that happen to me when I signed up to ebay and then paypal, I got the exact same thing but said it was for my paypal account, I thought it was weird that they all of a sudden want all my info again through email, so I emailed paypal and told them whats going on, well it obviously is a scam and paypal told me not to send them anything, and just keep deleting them, paypal said they will NEVER ask for any info about you through email, so any noobs signing upto anything like this, watch out for this . |
