I had the pleasure of volunterring to run a marathon before. When i say "pleasure" I hated every moment of it (including training) and when i say volunteer i mean forced. It wasn't 26 miles, only 20. I run pretty good for long distance...in no way shape or form does that translate i love it. (sometimes i love doing things that i dispise.) I was at the 7 1/2 mile mark when i decided SCREW THIS and turned around. My friends that forced me to go wouldn't know if REALLY completed it or not since it was idividual. :D Do i feel bad about it? no!

While i know i can finish it, i just didn't want to do it to begin with. But the best work out that i found that works is going to a track, sprint a lap, jog a lap, sprint a lap, jog a lap. do that about a zillion times everyday. that builds up both speed and stamina. Watch your heart though! :tongue2

Go run (Not walk/jog) 26 miles, then tell us how easy it is. :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:

even walk/run 26 miles non-stop and see how it easy it is. Besides stopping just makes it worse.

Erik V got it right, miles 18 to 26 are the worst mental exhaustion of your life. You want to quit, I'm told and your body says yes and you mind should say yes as well, it's about saying NO!.

Jason is a up, it's not easy, that's why people train for it because 26 miles is a terrible physical and mental toll. Jason, if you are so great, run the denver marathon and see if you last, 20 bucks says you don't finish.

Andy, run any marathon. Run 15 miles. I'll give you $20 if you finish.

*edit - Canadian dollars.

bring an ipod b/c you get bored.... you run out of things to think about

i have an 18 mile ruck march later this fall, w/ boots full army gear and a 40lb ruck sack... i did a 12 mile last fall from 2am to 6am and it absolutly kicked my ass,.. at least for my 18 miler coming up i dont have to carry my M16

ive found that the music you're listening to really matters, at least to me. if the music inspires me and pumps me up...im good. the way i see it is that i need something worthwhile to pay attention to while i zone out the discomfort that my body is going thru.

btw, brent, i cant imagine humping it like that.

ok people. i know you all think that you're superman, but really. i exercise on a regular basis...i eat healthy. i run probably the equivalent of 20-25 miles a week. from what i'm hearing the rest of you say is your "training" for a marathon seems to be what the rest of us call regular exercise...

i didn't say that i would finish in a top seat or something...i'm just saying that i could physically do it as i'm sure most people that are in decent shape could. granted...i'm sure the mental aspect is a bitch, and that would be the hardest thing to overcome...but you people make it seem like you have to be ing lance armstrong to do it.

no offense to any of you marathoners was meant...that's quite a feat you've accomplished. i'm just saying that i think i could do it if i wanted to.

I ran cross country...
5km PR 18:55 That is Below average time for a good prep runner.
10km PR 40:20 I wanted to break that 40 so bad. I run a damn 18 something and come back in a 22. I was def not prepared for that.

I could prob run 26 mile marathon but I tire myself out way to fast in the first half of it.

but that's not what you said. you said that it was NOT THAT HARD. While i'm not saying you can't finish it, I'm saying it's hard. I used to run alot more then you did and I admit that it was hard.

ok ok...its hard. what i should've said was that its not something that is unattainable for people. i've ran a lot more in the past as well...running a marathon just doesn't fit into my training goals..if it did...i'd probably run one, but i can only see it causing damage to someone who cares about their muscle...
