as for the born again clubs, im not totally sure its the clubs' fault themselves. I really do think its the current breed of club patrons, and many posh nyc'ers are really more concerned with which place is cool or not.. |
yeah i heard madd stories about the tunnel...i kinda am VERY curious and wished that i had been a part of that...but oh well...yeah i def see clubs catering to the posh crowd...jus look at how crobar, avalon n spirit turned out...not to mention the strict dress code...man whatever happened to having fun? *sigh* i guess a very big part in all of this is catering to those who can drop the most cash...vip -- which is such a big waste of space in these places man

I really do think its the current breed of club patrons, and many posh nyc'ers are really more concerned with which place is cool or not.. Most clubbers are NO like TAs.. In New York is 90% guido now, god only knows how that happened.....
so whatever tho, the club scene is always one big cycle, and though we may not have some "weekly" club to hit every week, we do still get more than out fair share of great djs to come and play for us.
works out better in the end, because we stay healthier and less broke ;) |
Those clubs are TRYING to bring in the posh NYC'ers because those monkeys like to pretend like they have tons of money to throw around (which they really don't). Either way those clubs make a killing on Friday and Saturday nights. |

Tunnel Reunion party wasn't bad even though I knew nothing about Tunnel or why it was Tunnel Reunion or whatnot... lol... plus any club where I get pulled out of line to be comped and get into VIP can't be a bad night to me... ;)
The layout of Ikon is exactly like the old Exit... 3 floors and all these passages and a long stair climb to the 2nd floor. Luckily, it's easy to get around, even when you're trashed. :toothless Enough bathrooms, too. The Pink Room is really nicely decorated and laid out... a nice chilling area with lots of comfy couches and room for dancing, too. The rooftop looked nice, people were just sitting around looking bored there though. The main floor was getting packed around 3am... there was a drag queen dancing in a cage and weird old ladies (40's?) dancing on the stage... maybe all of them were reliving their Tunnel days? :p Music was classics on the main floor in honor of Tunnel days... something different that I quite liked, even heard SM Trax - Got the Groove... hah, what a blast from the past. Pink Room music was sick, there were 3 tag-teaming DJ's, nice breaks. The crowd seemed like mostly under 21 year olds taking advantage of a club finally being 18+ on a Saturday, hehe... wasn't that shady at all. A handful of Arc crowd and the rest were old Exit-style people, meaning lots of dancing but also a pick up scene goin on... not many juicers though. Male-female ratio very good! That's a first! All in all a good night until the Southern Comfort caught up with me. :o I'm such a mess. :clown:
Thanks to Jason, nice seein ya... lookin forward to hearing you spin soon, maybe next weekend for the Godskitchen thing?

I like to see my term being thrown around way too much... THANKS Beema... (reference to asshat) I don't know your age and I am not ragging on you... I am simply telling you the way it should be. So don't get so defensive. And being 18 means yes you were too young, however, you should still educate yourself on it ASAP because it defined infamous clubbing of the mid to late 90's... not to mention being the last time Johnny Vicious could spin a decent set. :eyes: |

heheh... see, since I'm so young, I've NEVER heard the words "Johnny Vicious" and "decent" in the same sentence. :p Not tryin to yell at you man, just sayin that since I never went to those clubs and since all I'm doin is enjoyin myself now, the intimate knowledge of those venues isn't really necessary to me. I appreciate it when people tell stories, and I've heard about who spun and what went on at Tunnel, Limelight, etc... I always hear that "those were the days"...
I've been using asshat for about 3 months now, I have NO idea where I picked it up from... it's all over the place now! :p |

I made that term about a year ago when I was talking to Beema (Reuben)on AIM. I go off to Spain and come home and the next thing I see is this term being thrown around by everyone. And I know he was using it before I left. LoL... not your fault... its his... I told him not to be spreading that around.
The sad thing about the term is it doesn't really have the effect spoken as it does type-written. |
