well if we can stop cells from aging, we could theoretically live indefinitely. (if we didnt have an accident or disease or run out of air or energy or something)
But i think the ultimately more interesting thought is the thought of slowed perception. Perhaps with drugs and technology of the future, we can slow perception so that a day feels like ten thousand years. |

actually the very final stage of a mystical experience is when you feel that there is no time. |

are you serious? if so, i applaud you. now you have to tell me, what psychedelic did you use and if it felt like there was no time, how is it you lost the experience? |

you want to be able to live for 10 years in the space of half an hour? get yourself some dmt, although be prepared - if you have a bad trip, you'll be having a bad trip for 10 years
a mate of a friend of mine had some and ended up living as a farmer for 10 years and he ended up dieing... not in real life, in his trip. i understand that he took the then about 5 minutes into his trip he started screaming uncontrolably for 20 minutes... depends if you're willing to take the risk i reckon |

[highschool biology flashback]
isn't the whole reason why we age is because enzymes aren't reporduced perfectly each time, thus causing frameshift mutations in our DNA strans or some like that?

oxygen creates free radicals, whch are very reactive little molecules. these attack dna and damage it. most times the damage can be fixed but as time goes on more and more damage is done. even if we could lve super long the accumulated damaged to dna over the years would lead to lots of cancers and other abnormal growths. there is also some studies being done on telomere length. the reason they believe many cells have a finite possibility to divide is b/c every time they divide, their telomere shortens. one it gets too short the cell can no longer successfully divide. cancer calls have a mechanism which allows them to infinitely divide but it is still not fully undersstood let alone able to be used to our advantage. most agree however that 130 is the highest we will see without any major advances. |

I remember seeing a documentary about this, there making a drug that helps you live longer, could live upto 200 years, what they were saying is, the part of you that reproduces cells loses abit of information with every cell it makes, so as you get older, you don't reproduce the cells to how they should be, what this drug does is makes your reproduction system remember the cell information 100%, so when your 100 yrs old, your cells are still being made EXACTLY like when you were first born, I can't really explain it well, being stoned and drunk and all, plus it was afew years ago, but one thing that makes me wonder about this drug is, if it DOES reproduce the cells exactly, then wouldn't that mean you wouldn't age from the time you take it, so if you took it as a baby, you would stay like a baby, or if you took it at 20, you would stay looking that same way, also, does the drug just help the skin cells or all cells, I dunno, if you've kept reading till now, your probably as confused as I am. |
if it was possible you would still mature and develop into a fwull grown adult and then you would kind of say there....based on what i said before, this kind of is like making your entire body into cancer cells.... |

i'm more concerned about the ethical aspects of such advancements. i mean, isn't the earth already overpopulated? but any single one of us wants to live as much as possible, and i don't have a clue about when does it end our right to live, if it ends.
i guess someday we'll be spreading over onto other planets like a virus :p |
