Canada - irrelevant and weak??? (pg. 2)

I respect your point of view Starsearcher but there is much more to Canada than what excitement it has to offer. There was a reason you came here, may it be family or the promise of greater opportunity, but you came not EVEN knowing anything about it. Does that alone not attest to our quiet strength as a calm country that allows it's citizens a chance at a better life without bold sweeps and tampering of foriegn governments and way of life?
In terms of trade and commerce, we are not obscure. If our obscurity is based on military power then that, I think, is wise in today's inflamed global environment. "Be un-noticed, be un-harmed". Is that not a prudent stance, even if more by neglect than practice?
I don't think we need to promote...people immigrate here readily and our shortages in key health and science areas is more from our immigration office who forces well educated immigrant doctors and intellectuals into low paying jobs for unacceptably long waiting periods then due to us simply enduring a Brain-Drain. |

| Yeah I agree with you and you are correct but the thing is that in many people's eyes around the world we are weak and insignificant...Maybe not irrelevant...but we are by any means not strong...I think that's what the poll is asking...or maybe the person who made the poll should elaborate what he is referring to. |

What is your point? In cases dealing with extremism there is little recourse. Most of the killed you elude to were American....thus you can't be saying power equals pretection in your example...right? |

the point of the article is that despite being "neutral" Canadians are being kidnapped or killed, and that we have become so weak as to prevent it

| I'll say again: There is no preventing it. The killed American hostages prove that. You either take a scorched earth policy like the US has and inflame and incite even more acts against your citizens or you fight the "wimpy" diplomatic battle as Canada always does...and as I agree is forced to lacking any sense of strength. So what then is the right answer? I claim no grasp on it but to say a stronger hand would prevent acts of extremism is rubbish. |

muslim extremist were dealt with in syria in 82, i believe so.
15000 killed by the govt forces in deir e zur. (no one really know the exact number because no media was present there).
i won't fear for my security when i'll be there this autumn. |
