I know its expensive but you have to find a way to do it. Stop spending money on food or clothes or Porn and dedicate it to vinyl.

What are you crazy?? Never deny a man's porn!!:whip:

But seriously, yeah get some decks, I started out with CD players I bought American DJ which are great and run nice. However, I'm tired of using mp3's cause they sound like crap. Save up for some tables and get some chairs too!:happy2:

I tell every dj or aspiring dj that has or wants to spin cd's that you really need to invest in tables and vinyl. I will admit that I am a vinyl purist and very seldom use cd, but I am not the only one. Being a cd only dj can often be looked down on and affect bookings. There is nothing wrong with playing cd's for tracks that you cannot get or play on vinyl, but playing all cd's can be looked down upon. There is so much control with vinyl and there is a sense of gratification when you pick up a rare record and get the chance to use it. If you intend on playing at home or for chill parties, playing all cd can be alright, but if you want to develop and play out, playing vinyl will be very important. I have a cd mixer too, but I only use it when I have to. But buying vinyl does cost a ton. I don't even want to know the total expenditure.

Are Sasha (recent convert to cd decks), Digweed, and Zabiela looked down upon? Give me a in break. I spin both vinyl and Cd's. It's nice to be able to spin both. I learnt on CD's and the transition to Vinyl was simple. There are some great decks available for cheap. Check out the Numark Axis 8's, they're decent. Stanton also just realeased a new cheaper deck called the s-350. Cheap, and reliable.

Vinyl is great, but to say that you'll be looked down upon for spinning all cd's is e. However, learnng both skills is important.

Im strongly thinking of purchasing 1 of the pioneers. Ive seen them used, and think they are really good.

Would it be possible to hook 1 up to my pc and try mix like

1 Pioneer / Traktor DJ Studio

Think this would get me used to the pioneer and if i didnt like it, i would be able to sell it.

I havent got 1400 quid to spend but i seriously like the look of them and stats of them. Another thing would be if i got 1, would i need amps and stuff. I have a hifi that would be fine for hooking up etc

To be honest, i have a 4 week job a year, making about 500 quid a week, and vinyl wouldnt really be worth it for me. Club life in my area is very poor, and i dont really think about going to any bars etc, as basically hardly nobody i know in my area is into trance. Maybe once i start a full tim job, i will proberly get a set of technics, and looking further into a djing career, which i would like when im older.

thanks for help guys. i am a bit thick when it comes to decks and stuff, so i welcome your help :)

Yes but if he becomes better he will spend another fortune upgrading and if he quits they will be worth nothing. If you get the real daddies then you can resale them or keep them forever

Your idea has a certain merit if he's interested in getting the industry standard, but quite frankly, the CDJ-800s can do almost all that the CDJ-1000s can do. They are missing the wave forms and the text, which imo are both not a big deal. Also, they have .05% accuracy compared to .02%. If you can only stand having the absolute best, then that might be a concern, otherwise even with .05% accuracy the CDJ-800s will stay beatmatched for over a minute and then only a slight push on the jog wheel will immediately fix it.

Also, if he has no need to scratch, then it's really unnecessary to get standalone CD players. It is absolutely possible to create perfect mixes with duel CD players. There's always the balance between price, quality, and need, and beyond a certain point I think that you pay more for the knowledge that what you're purchasing is "the industry standard" than for anything else.

*edit* According to my knowledge, the CDJ-800s also have something that the 1000s don't - the beat cutter. While many people wouldn't need it, it can really be a fun tool to employ.

hey there keith...
i would stongly suggest investing in a dual cd deck?? the pioneer cmx3000 is a great piece of kit... 0.05 % pitch accuracy, master tempo, hot cues, realtime cues, wave display (like the cdj1000s) ,bpm counter (use this to grasp the fundamentals to beatmatching, after that tape it up) and a SORTA 'scratch' mode (not for serious scratching, just for neat tricks like backspinning) pretty good kit...i started off on these...and still learning even as i type this...
