Compressing Your Kick In the Mix

just a quick question...

If I save the effects of a compressor to a kick.. will it sound the same as it does if I were to have it be compressed in real time in my sequencer?

I'm not sure of this becuase I know that compressors tend to adjust the level of the sound it is working to compensate for the other elements of the mix..

as long as you don't use sidechains it doesn't care if you compress it external or real-time

it depends. if the kick which is compressed in realtime hits again before the release of the compressor ends it will not sound the same - for example, it will sound differently during drum rolls. it will not compensate for other elements in the mix if it is compressed alone.
